CIS gala provides scholarships

-A A +A

Each year, Communities in Schools of Brunswick County Inc. (CIS) awards $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors at each of the county’s five high schools. Last year, 22 students received help with their tuition and nine were the first in their families to attend college. The total amount of scholarships awarded by CIS was more than $83,000.
The number of scholarships awarded each year depends upon donations received at the Benefit Gala for Children where naming rights are auctioned off as part of the live auction. Donors are given the opportunity to present scholarships to recipients at awards day ceremonies at each school.
This year’s gala will be from 6-10 p.m. Oct. 27 at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center in Sunset Beach. Scholarship donations may also be made online.
The following businesses and individuals contributed to the 2011 scholarship fund: Labor Day Surf-Off; Charles Erickson; Capeside Animal Hospital; Dinah Gore; Cindy Hauman; Joan Madsen; David Redwine; Rusty and Polly Russ; Sunset Beach Pier; Ronnie and Clarice Holden; Sheriff John W. Ingram; Dr. Bill Rabon, Rabon for Senate; G.
