GOP women to meet March 1
The Brunswick County Republican Women will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Brunswick County GOP headquarters, 971 Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia. Guest speaker will be Becki Gray, vice president of outreach at the John Locke Foundation. She provides information and consultation to decision-makers involved in the state public policy process and will discuss the N.C. Council of State, a popular elected group of executive offices. Council of State members are often confused with cabinet members, organizers said.

VFW dinner is Feb. 24
VFW Post 10804, 111 S.C. 57 in Little River, S.C., will have a dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, featuring the Salty Dog Band. For reservations, call (843) 399-0877.
The second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. is pasta night. Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. features wings and Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. is Fiesta Night. All events are open to public. A banquet hall and catering is available.

Dems to meet Feb. 23
The regular open general Brunswick County Democratic Party meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at Democratic Party Headquarters, 1420 Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia, across from Brunswick Community College. Come meet the candidates and take part in the election of a board of election committee member.

Shaggers to host dance Feb. 24
The Society of Brunswick Shaggers will host a dance from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Oak Island Moose Lodge on Long Beach Road featuring Joey Warren, the “little man of beach music.” Everyone is asked to bring a nonperishable food item for a contribution to the Brunswick County Food Bank. Admission is $3 each for members, $6 for guests.

Coastal Garden Club to meet Feb. 27
Coastal Garden Club of Shallotte will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at BEMC in Supply. Representatives of the Cape Fear Bonsai Society will present a program on bonsai gardening. Guests are welcome.

Quilters Guild meets Wednesdays
The Oak Island Beach Quilters Guild meets at 10:15 a.m. every Wednesday at the Oak Island Community Center. All are welcome to attend. The group has a business meeting the first Wednesday of each month, and will have a range of charity workshops, raffle quilt workshops and various classes to further quilting knowledge. All levels of quilters from new to advanced are welcome.
