Plant sale benefits scholarships
The Coastal Garden Club of Shallotte will conduct its annual plant sale from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, May 4, at 6704 Beach Drive N.C. 179) in Ocean Isle Beach, across from Jimmy’s Marina. Choose from annuals, perennials and vegetables. Proceeds will benefit horticultural scholarships and the interagency program at Brunswick Community College.
DAR examines basketweaving May 9
The Brunswick Town Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the fellowship hall at Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 East Nash St. in Southport. The program will be about basket weaving and DAR member Ann Warren will be the guest speaker.
DAR is committed to preserving the country’s heritage, fostering education and promoting patriotism. The chapter invites women who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor that aided in achieving American independence to join the chapter.

Elks sponsor miniature golf tournament May 5
Little River Elks Lodge 2840 will sponsor a miniature golf tournament on Saturday, May 5, at the Harbour View Golf Complex, 901 U.S. 17 N. in Little River, S.C. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the tournament starts at 11 a.m.
Entry fee is $20 per person/$80 per four-man team. Cost includes 18 holes of golf, prizes, lunch and refreshments at the Little River Elks Lodge. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Tournament proceeds will allow Elks to meet the pressing needs in the community and continue to help local charities in the Little River and North Myrtle Beach area.

Classic Country band to play at VFW May 4
Classic Country Band will be back playing at VFW Post 10804 in Little River, S.C., on May. 4. Dinner is at 6 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. Music is from 6:30-9:30 p.m. For reservations, call (843) 399-0877.
