Native Americans to speak at history meeting
The next meeting of the Brunswick County Historical Society will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Brunswick Community College, Building A, in Bolivia. The society meets the second Monday in February, May, August and November.
Anyone interested in preserving and studying the history of Brunswick County is invited to attend. Admission is free. The program will feature the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe, located in southeastern North Carolina. They are one of eight state-recognized Native-American tribal nations in North Carolina.

Poetry Revisited to meet May 20
Poetry Revisited, a monthly group for those who write, read and listen to poetry, will have its May gathering on Sunday, May 20. This is a change from the regular meeting day (second Sunday). The group will meet from 3-4:30 p.m. in the activity room at Arbor Landing in Ocean Isle Beach.
Poetry Revisited meets the second Sunday afternoon of each month, unless otherwise noted. Typically, each session will have several scheduled readers plus an opportunity for others to read their work as time permits. This group is open to anyone who appreciates writing or listening to original poetry.

Seniors to meet May 14
Holden Beach Senior Citizens will meet at 6 p.m. May 14 at Lockwood Folly Community Building on Stanley Road. Come and enjoy a delicious covered dish meal. Nancy Suarez will conduct the program. Plans will be made for the Dolphin trip.
Remember to bring non-perishable foods for a local food bank.
Shaggers to celebrate with May 11 dance
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Society of Brunswick Shaggers from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the VFW on SE 50th St. on Oak Island. Deejay Gene Sistare will provide the tunes, so bring your favorite Mexican dish to share and dance the night away.
Admission is $3 for SOBS and other shag club members; $6 for guests.
