Landis installed as GFWC-NC  secretary
Ann Landis was installed as the GFWC-NC recording secretary at the 110th annual convention of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs-North Carolina (GFWC-NC) in Greensboro and will serve in the 2012-2014 administration. Landis was the organizing member and past two-term president of the GFWC of Holden Beach.
The Holden Beach club was recognized by the national GFWC organization for its outstanding work in advocacy for children with its work in providing pediatric bags for the Brunswick County Emergency Medical Services vehicles.
Landis is a former member and past vice president of the GFWC South Brunswick Islands Woman’s Club, past two-term president of the North Wilkesboro Woman’s Club and past president of the North Wilkesboro Junior Woman’s Club. She most recently served as the 2010-2012 GFWC-NC District 7 president, covering eight counties and 17 local clubs with 500 members in eastern North Carolina.
She has served the GFWC-NC for 38 years and was the GFWC-NC State Convention Leadership and Development Seminar (LEADS) workshop chairman in 2010 and the LEADS workshop co-chairman in 2009. In addition, she served as GFWC –NC membership co-chairman 2008-2010 and GFWC-NC Education Community Service Program chairman while serving the North Wilkesboro club.
Landis has been awarded the Linda G. White Junior Club Woman of the Year Award, the Minnie Lou Parker Creech Outstanding Clubwoman of the Year Award, and is an Honorary Life Member of GFWC-NC. She recently received the GFWC-NC Juanita Bryant Citizenship and Patriotism Award for 2012 at the state convention. She and her husband Bill reside in Holden Beach.
The 2012-2014 GFWC-NC President and Junior Director’s Special Project will be “Feed the Future.” This project will serve the hungry in this state, but more importantly, the hungry children who are at times food-insecure. Local woman’s clubs from across the state will be encouraged to partner with existing programs in their communities, as well as “No Kid Hungry North Carolina” to see that the children of this state are fed healthy, nutritional meals on the weekends and during the summer months.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary to have yard sale
Holden Beach VFW 8866 Ladies Auxiliary will host a charity yard sale for one of its members who is battling cancer from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, on Sabbath Home Road, 1.5 miles past the Holden Beach stoplight. No early birds, please. Breakfast will be available from 8-10 a.m. for $5 per person. Donations will be also be accepted.

Shaggers to host Hawaiian night
Join the Society of Brunswick Shaggers for Hawaiian Night from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Moose Lodge on Long Beach Road. Deejay Jim Rose will provide the music. Admission is $3 for SOBS and other shag club members and $6 for all guests.
