A rally against the recent rise in flood insurance rates has been canceled, according to Tom Thompson, chairman of the NC-20.
NC-20, a coastal county economic development coalition, was scheduled to hold the North Carolina Rally for Repeal of the Biggert-Waters Bill on Monday, Oct. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the New Bern Convention Center, but the rally was called off Oct. 9.
Under the federal Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act, premiums are expected to rise by an average of 10 percent when flood insurance policies are renewed after Oct. 1.
