An early morning collision on Stone Chimney Road in Supply on Oct. 25 left one man dead and four others injured.

According to Sgt. C.C. Albritton of the N.C. State Highway Patrol, James Walter Wilkins, 28, of Bladenboro was driving south on Stone Chimney Road toward N.C. 211 when he crossed the center lane and collided with an on-coming vehicle.

Wilkins was driving at about 60 mph while Douglas Wayne Parker, 62, was driving north on Stone Chimney Road at about 50 mph. Wilkins crossed the center lane, Albritton said. When the two cars collided, Wilkins’ car came to a stop in the road and Parker’s vehicle ran off the road, he said.

Wilkins died on the scene and four other passengers were taken to Brunswick Community Hospital. Troopers did not suspect drugs or alcohol to have been a factor in the collision, and Albritton said no charges would be filed.
