Summer quilt show is July 16-Aug. 15
The Year of the Dragon is the theme of this summer’s quilt show at Franklin Square Gallery in Southport. The show, which runs from July 16-Aug. 15, is the 20th year the quilt guild has participated in a challenge show at the gallery.
The show, which hopes to promote quilting as art form, will feature 18 quilts created by members of the Oak Island Beach Quilters Guild. Local artists Susan Ernest and Susan Mauney judged the entries first- through fourth-place plus honorable mention. Visitors to the show can select a personal favorite by voting when they view the display.
Beach Quilters Guild meets from 10:15 a.m.-noon Wednesdays at the Oak Island Community Center. The guild is nearly 50-strong and new members are always welcome, whether new or experienced quilters.

Habitat plans store celebration
Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity ReStore will have a Restore Renewal celebration at 9 a.m., Thursday, July 26, for the new Ocean Isle Beach location at 6560 Beach Drive.
The store is one of 825 Habitat ReStores in the United States and Canada. The store accepts donations of new and gently used building materials and household goods and sells the items to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Proceeds are used to achieve Habitat’s mission to build homes, communities and hope.
Each ReStore is operated by a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, and each one is unique.
The new store is at the intersection of Beach Drive and Frink Street. The construction site is across from Beaches Burgers. Parking is limited and caution is urged.
