Congratulations to World Series teams

-A A +A
By Staff Brunswick Beacon

Brunswick County athletes have proven they have a lot of heart.

Recently, the Brunswick County Debs earned a chance to play in the Dixie Debs Softball World Series. They finished their World Series championship bid in the top six, ending the series 2-2.

This is the second straight year the Debs have earned a spot in the World Series; they finished fifth. Last year, they were 0-2 in the series.

The Brunswick County Dixie Boys also earned a chance to play in the World Series. A heartbreaking one-run loss eliminated these talented young players from the chance to bring home the World Series title.

Despite home runs by Markel Jones and Travis Oliver, Amelia, Va., beat Brunswick, representing North Carolina, 6-5 on Sunday.

This is the fourth straight year a Brunswick County team has represented North Carolina in either the Dixie Boys or Dixie Junior Boys World Series.

Throughout the season, these boys and girls proved they had the heart and talent to be contenders on the field. Through local play, state competition and a World Series bid, these athletes represented the community well by playing hard against top caliber teams.

Congratulations to all of these players, their coaches and the parents that supported. You have made Brunswick County proud.
