County approves DOT plan to abandon Middle Dam Road

Brunswick County commissioners have agreed to endorse clipping the end of Middle Dam Road despite complaints from residents.

The last 30 yards of Middle Dam Road, off Copas Road in Shallotte, end on property owned by R.D. White III, who petitioned the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to abandon it and return it to private property.

But residents who have a long family history living on the road didn’t see any benefit in shortening the road for anyone except White.
