On March 19-20 and March 22, the Crow Creek MGA played its third annual Ryder Cup Competition. Thirty-six members were divided into 18 two-man teams. The team captains were Brian Nordberg for the Red Team and David Hannah for the White Team. Each event was based on a match play format in which the teams received one point for a win and one-half point for a tie.
Day 1 consisted of four-ball matches in which two members from each team played a best ball match. With every match going down to the wire, the Red Team grabbed a 6.5-2.5 advantage. Day 2 consisted of foursome matches in which two members from each team played alternating shots in a match against the opposing team. The Red team maintained its lead as it won six of the nine matches. Day 3 consisted of single matches and the Red Team won the majority of the tight matches 10-8. The Red team won the Ryder Cup 22.5-13.5. The competition was closer than the final score indicates as most of the matches came down to the final holes or hole.
These golfers won all three of their matches: Ray Schatz, George Aubrey, Paul Gamsby, Ed Scanlan, Bob Klopp and Jerry Zimmerman for the Red Team and Jerry Dickson for the White Team. Brian Nordberg was the tournament chairman.
