Defining the best

I laughed out loud when the folks at ESPN listed David Thompson as the eighth-best college basketball player ever. Obviously, I thought, they never saw him play.

And sure enough, the next morning, one of the young ESPN morning TV guys admitted he never saw D.T. play in college.

N.C. State’s David Thompson was the best college player I ever saw, and North Carolina’s Michael Jordan was the best pro player I ever saw. They both did things that didn’t seem humanly possible.
