Quinton Morrow made two steals in the final minute to help Brunswick Community College beat Spartanburg Prep 68-57 Sunday on Walter Shaw Court at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.
For BCC (12-10), Steve Johnson scored 13 points, Morrow 11 and Alex Tucker nine.
BCC led 41-28 at the half and maintained the 13-point lead as Tucker scored seven of the Dolphins’ first 10 points. Tucker later suffered an apparent leg injury and did not return.
BCC led 64-57 with 4 minuts, 38 seconds left but each team went scoreless over the next three minutes. After a timeout with 1:34 left, Morrow stole a pass, and on the possession Darrion Eastmon made a layup. Morrow made another steal, was fouled and sank two free throws with 38.1 seconds left, putting BCC ahead 68-57. Spartanburg went scoreless in the final 4:38.
In the first half, a 3-pointer from the right corner by Steve Johnson held give BCC a 10-3 lead. Morrow hit a 3-pointer from the top of the arc and dunk by Johnson kept BCC ahead 26-15.
But BCC hit one field from 6:02 to 1:30 as Spartanburg Prep cut the lead to 34-28. In the final 1:29, BCC outscored Spartanburg Prep 7-0: Graham scored, Zack Chandler hit a 3-pointer from the left corner and after BCC forced a turnover, Kameko Walls made a layup, giving BCC a 41-28 lead at halftime.
BCC is 12-10 and its next home game is 4 p.m. Sunday against Aiken Tech. Aiken beat BCC by 30 points in January.
