To the editor: Each year, teens who age out of the Brunswick County foster care system are faced with new challenges as they enter the real world.
Some of these teens are asking for assistance in learning how to face the challenges adults face routinely in the everyday world, how to select the best educational opportunities, how to prepare for a job interview, how to budget finances, how to buy and maintain an auto, how to deal with life’s surprises and more.
You can assist a teen meet these challenges by becoming a mentor through WAVES 4 K.I.D.S., a nonprofit, providing services not covered by the department of social services for kids associated with foster care.
You will receive training, support and the tools to offer your expertise to one of these teens.
Remember, “It is easier to build a wholesome child than to repair a broken adult.”
Donate your time and expertise to assist a teen transition into the adult world. A few hours a month will be one of the best investments you can make.
