Eggert gets Lions fellowship

-A A +A

Don Eggert was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF) with Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) at the June meeting of the Shallotte Lions Club.
As recognition of humanitarian work, an MJF is awarded to those who donate $1,000 to LCIF or to people for whom a donation was made by others, such as the local club.
Donations through MJF provide 70 percent of the foundation’s annual revenue. All honorees are invited to the annual luncheon and their names are on a rotating computer list of donors in the MJF room at International Headquarters. The MJF is LCIF’s highest honor.
John Bryant was named Lion of the Year by his fellow members. He was instrumental in screening and processing applications for eye exams and eyeglasses for needy persons. This is one of the most important services provided by local Lions clubs. For more information about Lionism, call 579-3575.
The club will conduct a golfing event on July 21 on the Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation in Sunset Beach, in memory of Lions past international director, Dr. M. Henderson Rourk. There will be monetary prizes for first, second and third places in each of two flights.
For more information, call Marvin Peters at 579-1059. Proceeds will benefit the visually handicapped, including eye exams and glasses for the needy, and free eye screening for school children and adults.
