The spring and Easter season will be celebrated in style this week with a number of events planned in and around Brunswick County.
Southport Spring Festival
The annual event is scheduled for April 18 and 19 in Franklin Square Park. Admission is free.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Highlights include more than 150 crafters, entertainment, food vendors and children’s activities.
The Southport-Oak Island Kiwanis Club will be selling Encore azaleas, camellias, early flowers, herbs and plants.
The 32nd annual Robert Ruark Chili Cook-Off Contest is scheduled 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with winners to be announced at 3:30 p.m.
On Saturday, April 19, the Kiwanis Club will host a 5K Run/Walk beginning on the Southport waterfront at 8 a.m.
Battleship Easter egg hunt carnival
The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Good Friday, April 18, at the Battleship North Carolina on the Cape Fear River at Wilmington.
Highlights include games, egg hunts and photos with Buddy the Battleship Bunny.
Offered again this year is a slower-paced hunt area for kids who need a less stressful environment or for children with special needs.
Admission is $5 per person, with children 2 and younger admitted free. This event is weather dependent. The last tickets will be sold at 1 p.m.

Easter egg hunt in Leland
A town Easter egg hunt is scheduled Saturday morning, April 19, at Leland Municipal Park, 102 Town Hall Drive in Leland.
Bring your own basket and be at the park by 9:45 a.m. for the hunts that start at 10 a.m.
The egg hunt is divided into four age groups from infant to 10.
Other highlights include refreshments, prizes and a special visit from the Easter Bunny.
Easter at the Old Bridge
The Old Bridge at 109 Shoreline Drive West in Sunset Beach will be the site of its first Easter festivities from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19.
Highlights include games, face-painting, prizes, food treats, and an egg hunt.
