Former West Brunswick pitcher Jay Gause finished the regular season 7-5 with a 3.34 ERA for Walters State Community College, an NJCAA Division I team. Gause, a sophomore, pitched 72.2 innings, third most on the team, and averaged 10 strikeouts a game.

Walters State is 35-16. It is 18-1 at its home field in Morristown, Tenn.

On April 27, the 18th-ranked Senators completed a three-game sweep of Tennessee Community College Athletic Association rival Roane State Saturday with a 13-4 victory over the Raiders at Senator Field, clinching the outright TCCAA and NJCAA Region VII regular-season crowns.

With the win, Walters State finished 19-8 in the league play. As league champions, the Senators are automatic qualifiers for the NJCAA East Central District Tournament on May 16-19, which they will host. The winner of that tournament advances to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
