To the editor:
Jesus considered knowledge and belief of His word as faith. Jesus was asked by the woman from Canaan, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David. My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
This gentile woman humbly acknowledged that Jesus was to minister to the Jew first, but persisted because He was her Lord and believed He could heal her daughter. Now, when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a Centurion came to Him, pleaded with Him, and said, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
The Centurion, like the woman from Canaan, acknowledged Jesus as Lord and understood this is a spirit world and Jesus only had to speak the word and it would be done. Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way, and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.”
