Crews on Thursday morning, Dec. 19, pulled a beached ferry from a sandbar in the Southport Channel then moved it to Wilmington for inspection, a Coast Guard official said.

The 64-foot pedestrian ferry called “The Adeventure” and owned by Bald Head Island Transportation slammed into a sandbar near Battery Island just after 9 a.m. Dec. 17.

According to the Coast Guard, the ferry was outside the marked channel that runs between Deep Point Marina in Southport and Bald Head Island when it hit the sandbar.
