GRISSETTOWN—All things Italian will be celebrated this Saturday at Silver Coast Winery, which is staging its annual Festa Italia 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
The event kicks off with master of ceremonies Dave “The Bopper” Overby warming up the crowd with Italian songs.
At noon, Larry Tanelli and the Paisans will perform until 3 p.m., bringing their renowned tribute to Louis Prima.
Also at noon, the Carolinas Italian American Organization (CIAO) will be on hand to organize Festa Italia’s annual bocce tournament, which is open to everyone.
Winery tours with Silver Coast wine-maker Dana Keeler are scheduled at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Winery house duo Shamalama with Mickey Hardie and Phil Berg will wrap up the day’s array of entertainment with a performance slated 3-5 p.m.
Other highlights include wine tastings every half hour at Silver Coast’s indoor bars; wine by the glass and bottle at the outside bar; food by Benny Rappa’s Trattoria and Italian ices by Sunset Slush. Beer and soft drinks will be available for sale as well.
There also will be arts and crafts vendors, free raffles throughout the day and an Italian trivia contest.
Admission is $5. For children younger than 12, there is no charge.
Silver Coast Winery is at 6680 Barbeque Road in the Grissettown area.
Silver Coast Winery is a working winery with an annual production of 10,000 cases. It offers tours of its winemaking facility, from the vineyard to the bottle.
It has a tasting room and gift shop, changing displays of work by local artists and a picnic area in its gardens.
To get there, take U.S. 17 to N.C. 904 West (eight miles north of the South Carolina border). Go 1.3 miles to Russtown Road and turn right; go another 1.5 miles to Barbeque Road and turn right. Follow the road to the end leading into the winery.
