Rescue Animals Community Effort (RACE) is having its second annual Fall Festival of Fur from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1790 Queen Anne St. in Sunset Beach (next to Fibber McGee’s).

This is a family event helping local animals to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, vetted, fed, fostered and placed in forever homes with their new families.

Highlights include a sheriff’s K-9 demonstration, bake sale, pet contests, face painting, raffle and silent auction table, crafts, children’s games, vendors and hot dogs and drinks.

Many local dog and cat rescue groups, as well as breed-specific rescue groups, will be in attendance.

For more information, go to www.raceshelter.org or to RACE Inc. on Facebook or call (910) 547-2839 or email raceshelter@yahoo.com.

Donations and sponsorships are welcome for RACE, a nonprofit that implements programs to educate children and adults on proper care and responsibility for companion animals as well as teaching awareness to the community on animal issues that impact society as a whole.

Through its volunteer and foster network fueled by community interest, RACE has a goal to greatly reduce animal euthanasia in coming years and turn the county shelter into a no-kill facility. Trainers, veterinarians, animal behaviorists and groomers have joined efforts with RACE to rehabilitate pets in need so they will be healthy, adoptable animals.
