Just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a fire destroyed a Leland home.

No one was in the home when it caught fire.

According to Brunswick County Fire Marshal Scott Garner, the family who lives in the home was out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday when the blaze destroyed the home on South Navassa Road.

The Leland Police Department is investigated the cause of the fire, and the Brunswick County Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the fire investigation. Garner said a neighbor reported the fire when smoke began coming out of the house, which Garner said was “a total loss.”

No other structures were threatened by the blaze, Garner said.

In addition to the Leland Police Department and the fire marshal’s office, Leland Fire, Navassa Fire, Northwest Fire, Winnabow Fire and New Hanover County Fire departments also responded to the fire.
