Bella Faircloth catches king mackerel
Bella Faircloth, 3, caught her first king mackerel
Sept. 30 while fishing Yaupon Reef with dad Capt. Cane Faircloth. Mom Brea Faircloth did the honors of gaffing the king, which hit a live pogy.
Fishing derby is Oct. 25
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department and the Oak Island Pier are sponsoring a haunted fishing derby from 5-7 p.m. Oct .25 at the Oak Island Pier.
The derby is free and open to all youth ages 12 and younger. All kids who wear a costume will receive goody bag. There will be prizes in different categories, such as most fish caught, largest fish, scariest fish, ugliest fish, haunted fish, etc.
Participants need to bring their own fishing rod and bait. For more information, call 278-5518.
