This summer, your child can learn more about homesteading the old-fashioned way, but with a modern twist.
Greenlands Children’s Farm Summer Day Camp will soon be in session.
Greenlands Farm at 668 Midway Road in Bolivia is offering children’s farm camp sessions 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays from July 15 through Aug. 12.
The sessions will include lunch and items made by your child at the farm.
Throughout the week, children will experience modern homestead farming. The goal is to bring back old farming traditions and connect with what our world provides for us today.
Greenlands Farm incorporates sustainability practices
into everyday life on the farm: permaculture, organic farming, composting, and rain cisterns.
Activities will include soap-making, canning and baking, organic farming, egg-collecting, goat-milking, pony-grooming and learning about a variety of farm animals including pigs, goats, llamas, chickens, ponies, sheep, bunnies and turkeys
Other highlights include crafts, farm games, pony rides and llama cart rides.
Greenlands Farm operates as a true homestead farm, living off what it produces—fruits, vegetables, and goats’ milk for making goats’ milk soap.
These are some of the hands-on activities children will be taking part in at the farm’s summer day camp. They will eat, can and bake what they grow. They will get “hands-on” experience by milking Greenlands’ goats and learning soap-making with the milk they collect.
Greenlands Farm also has rescued farm animals used to educate children about each animal and its needs, along with care and respect.
The goal isn’t to encourage kids to be future farmers, but to share with them the joy and fulfillment of working hard, respecting the environment around them and reaping the benefits. The camp is designed to teach children teamwork, patience and responsibility through the homestead program.
Tuition is $240 per child. Summer camp applications are due no later than one week prior to registered session.
