Food for Thought: New Hibachi Corner on Capt. Calabash menu

On Feb. 7, Captain Calabash Restaurant at 10001 Beach Drive in Calabash had a grand opening for the season to celebrate its recent remodeling and addition of a new Hibachi Corner.

Co-owners Mohammad Abdou, Sam Rayes and Ralph Molina are excited about the Japanese-style cooking and menu that is an addition to regular menu and buffet offerings at the restaurant.

The Hibachi Corner is decorated with a soothing atmosphere and music, with red tablecloths and candles.

On the menu are appetizers including a choice of spring, shrimp or egg roll for $1.50, as well as edemame, teriyaki of hot chicken wings, yakitori (teriyaki chicken skewer) and glazed shrimp and turkey bacon.

There’s also miso soup and a choice of salads — ginger, ranch, seaweed and kani (spicy crabmeat).

Lunch bowls start at $4.49 and are served with rice and consist of chicken, steak, shrimp, mahi-mahi, salmon, vegetable, shrimp and broccoli, or steak and broccoli.

There are also hibachi lunch and dinner offerings served with rice and vegetables as well as dinner combos.

A variety of fresh sushi and specialty rolls are on the menu, as well as a kids’ menu and dessert (fried cheesecake, banana tempura).

The restaurant is offering a Valentine’s Day two-for-$29.99 special.

Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Call (910) 575-3300.
