Next to the game, Super Bowl excitement centers around food.
Super Bowl weekend connoisseurs can celebrate and dine in style with a variety of options.
Kicking off the weekend is the GFWC-South Brunswick Islands Woman’s Club’s delicious SOUPer Bowl Saturday fundraiser from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. this coming Saturday, Feb. 1, in the fellowship hall of Shallotte Presbyterian Church, 4519 Main St. behind Rourke Library in Shallotte.
For each $15 per-ticket donation, attendees will receive a freshly glazed keepsake bowl handcrafted by a local potter, along with a piping hot serving of soup prepared by one of several participating eateries.
Also included with each ticket are a choice of soup, bread and dessert. Additional helpings of soup will be available for $3 each. This year’s attendees also have the option of purchasing “soup only” tickets at the door for $8 each.
As in years past, SOUPer Bowl Saturday will include a raffle for beautiful pieces of local pottery.
Proceeds from the event will benefit both the South Brunswick Interchurch Council and Brunswick Family Assistance food pantries and the Wings Ministry Backpacks Full of Blessings Backpack Buddies Program.
Soup, bread, and desserts are being generously donated by area restaurants, local caterers, and GFWC-SBI clubwomen.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting any GFWC-SBI club member or at Seaside Embroidery at 4519 Main St. in Shallotte (phone (910) 754-3070).
A limited number of $15 tickets are available, but soup-only tickets will be available throughout the event. Monetary donations will be accepted as well.
Planet Fun at 349 Whiteville Road (N.C. 130) in Shallotte is having an M.V.P. Super Bowl Sunday tailgate party.
Wing & Fish Company at 4764-1 Main St. in Shallotte is another popular stopping place for all things football and serves up an apropos accompanying menu, too.
Family-owned Patronies Pizza at 2625 Holden Beach Road has re-opened for the season — another call-in option during Super Bowl weekend.
Menu options in addition to a variety of traditional and specialty pizzas include pasta, “world famous” chicken wings, calzones, hero sandwiches and salads.
Patronies also offers party trays
Also available is a 14 percent off coupon that’s valid through March 1.
Hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
