Former Brunswick County deputy clerk of court Sherry Lynn Carmichael pleaded guilty to two counts of embezzlement July 28.
According to district attorney Rex Gore, Carmichael pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Gary Locklear. Locklear sentenced Carmichael to a probationary sentence, which included $3,400 in restitution, Gore said.
Carmichael was arrested and charged with two counts of embezzling state property May 8, 2007. She was employed as a deputy clerk of court from Aug. 20, 2000 until she was terminated April 16, 2007.
