To the editor: The Southport/Oak Island Friends of the Library would like to extend a huge thank you to the community and all our dedicated volunteers for their overwhelming support during our second annual Friends of the Library Week Oct. 19-25.
Friends of the Library supports and works with the local libraries to help provide books and various needed supplies not included in the county budget for our community libraries, as well as volunteers to help the local libraries in any way needed.
During FOL week, we signed up 64 new members and our final event of the week, our book sale on Oct. 25, was a great success also.
Cost of annual membership is a mere $5 for an individual and $10 for a family. You may call Judy Wagner at 253-7370 to inquire about membership.
You may also sign up to become a member at our next book sale 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Old Jail Annex on Rhett Street in Southport.
We have more books right now than ever before, featuring a collection of Louis L’amour hardbound and paperback books that have just arrived. We also have first editions, children’s and specialty books at bargain basement prices.
The book sale offers a great opportunity for holiday shopping for everyone on your list.
