On June 1, The First Tee of Brunswick County will be host of its third annual Future Generations Tournament on all four golf courses of the St. James Plantation. Its success and your participation will help shape the future of the many kids who are participants in The First Tee of Brunswick County.
Last year, nearly 500 golfers signed up for this golf tournament, along with a host of sponsors. The tournament is the largest benefit tourney in all of coastal Carolina. It was a fun day of golf, fellowship and sharing in the satisfaction that just by being there the players and donors would make a big difference in the lives of Brunswick county youth. For the remainder of 2012 and into 2013, their participation in the Future Generations Tournament, and their generosity, helped to shape and underwrite all of our major golf programs.
For our chapter, those future generations come in all shapes and sizes. They are the youngsters who receive TFTBC life and golf skills instruction in their elementary school physical education classes. They are the fourth- and fifth-grade youth bused to our Cinghiale Creek campus for an hour and a half six times a semester for TFTBC character development and golf instruction. They are the after-school participants, ages 7-17, who learn TFTBC meet-and-greet skills and are taught STAR—Stop, Think, Anticipate and Respond—lessons applicable for golf and life. They plan for their dreams and goals. And across the curriculum, every student learns to play and live by The First Tee Nine Core Values: courtesy, confidence, respect, responsibility, judgment, perseverance, honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.
The registration fee for the tournament is $380 per foursome and only foursomes can register. Entry fee covers golf, cart, boxed lunch, cocktail hour and dinner. Like last year, the format is a captain’s choice, four-person scramble. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: men, women and couples. There will also be a live and silent auction and raffle.
Each course will also be host of a hole-in-one contest. The prize is four tickets to the Tuesday practice round of the 2014 Masters tournament with round-trip limousine service and access to the hospitality tent.
Those of us who volunteer for TFTBC—and there are hundreds of us—dedicate thousands of hours to helping shape the lives of our students and molding them into the good citizens and leaders of tomorrow. It’s our legacy and it can be yours by joining us at the Future Generations Tournament June 1 at St. James Plantation.
