To the editor:
As the summer will soon turn to fall, I’ve realized that this will be the first August in many years that I have not jumped in line with fellow students to register for college classes.
As a recent graduate of Brunswick Community College, this notion is bittersweet. The faculty and staff at BCC were instrumental in my successful completion of a degree.
After a 10-year journey, including enrollment at several community colleges throughout the East Coast, it wasn’t until my enrollment at BCC I found success.
While my educational journey may be unique, as it includes a childhood filled with male supremacy, serving our country with a tour in Iraq, starting a family with my husband who is also a U.S. veteran, and having a high-functioning child with autism, the challenges all students face were still present.
With the positive learning environment and the convenience of the education at BCC, I am a college graduate.
As a proud Dolphin, I am ready to carry my educational goals forward. As an alumna, I feel it is necessary to share this story with readers.
To my fellow college-goers, I would like to say education is a privilege. Set goals and strive to do whatever it takes to reach them. And always remember life brings many challenges and conquering challenges brings great reward.
If you’ve ever wanted to pursue a certificate, diploma, or degree it is possible…and best of all, it is possible without ever having to leave the beaches of Brunswick County.
