CLUB 25 CROW CREEK
Mona Dye from Brierwood shot a 75 to lead Club 25 Ladies Golf League at Crow Creek on June 16. Sandy Hulberg (Lakes) was second and Mei Lu Pierce (Myrtle Beach National) was third. Kitty Fox (Lakes) and Suzanne Moro (Wacchesaw Plantation) tied for fourth, while Dale Calhoon (Brick Landing), Shari Hodson (Lakes) and Pat Shutzman (Carolina National) tied for sixth.
In the second flight, Betsey Mitchell (St. James) took first-place honors. Jeannie Rosberg (Meadowlands) and Linda A. Smith (Wilmington Municipal) tied for second. Laura Hendrick (Beau Rivage) and Carol Kelly (Cape) tied for fourth, while Sally Duffy (Ocean Ridge) came in sixth.
Cathy Story (Ocean Ridge) led the third flight, followed by Eileen Reddy (Meadowlands) in second, Jane Carter and Judy Hughes, both from St. James, and Claere Schramm (Surf Club) tied for third. Pat Dickerman (Magnolia Greens) placed sixth.
Diana Wells (Carolina National) won the fourth flight, with Donna Phelps (Black Bear) and Mary Turner (Wizard) tying for second. Sue Crisp (Lockwood Folly) took fourth. Pam Fitzgerald and Jan Henson, both from Ocean Ridge, came in fifth and sixth.
In the fifth flight, Cass Chickillo (St. James) took first-place honors. Carol Byrne (Carolina National) and Barbara Seelos (Ocean Ridge) tied for second. In fourth was Judi Cody (Lockwood Folly), followed by Cheryl Kobani (International Club). Three players tied for sixth in this flight: Carolyn Addison (Burning Ridge), Mae Drezek (Brunswick Plantation) and Andrea Peebles (Sea Trail).
Judy Hardin (Black Bear) won the sixth flight while Pat Brooks (Ocean Ridge) and Anna Hackathorn (Meadowlands) tied for second. Sue Kelor (Olde Pointe) and Genny Ward (Ocean Ridge) tied for fourth and Jean Bourne (River Club) came in sixth.
Kris Boardman (Cape) and Janice Metz (Magnolia Greens) tied for first in the seventh flight. Flo Bettenhauser (Tidewater) and Hazel Reid (Winston Salem) tied for third. Peg Lawrence (Executive Women’s Golf Association) and Sheila Osann (Pine Valley) tied for fifth.
The eighth flight was led by Toni Roe and Doris Fairchild, both from Ocean Ridge, in first and second place. Nancy McKelvey (Olde Pointe) came in third. In a three-way tie for fourth were Sylvia Lindsay (Black Bear), Meggie McClave (Sea Trail) and Jeanne Millar (Tidewater).
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Carol Byrne (Carolina National) and Camille Hochreiter (Olde Pointe).
In the skins competition, Mona Dye (Brierwood) won two skins, and Carol Byrne (Carolina National), Barbara Seelos (Ocean Ridge), Sue Herrmann (Glen Dornoch), Jeanie Rosberg (Meadowlands) and Harriette Powell (Tidewater) each took home one skin.
MEN’S LEAGUE CROW CREEK
The Crow Creek Golf Club Men’s League played June 17. The format was three-man team gross quota (each player’s net points are added together for the team score).
In first at +18 were Brian Nordberg, Ray Hickey and Ron Perry. In second at +14 were Jerry Dickson, John Sparks and Al Ricozzi. In third at +10 were John Krug, John Buddemeyer and Ed Darrow.
The winner in flight A was Jerry Dickson (+8). The winner in flight B was John Buddemeyer (+7). The winner in flight C was Al Ricozzi (+10).
LOCKWOOD LADIES
In a no-par 5s match, with one-half handicap, played at Lockwood Folly Country Club, Dianne Hoffman was first (56), Barbara Esposito second (57.5) and Susann Thompson third (58.5).
In an odd-holes and handicap match, Pam Humenay was first (31), Fran Hursh second (32) and Gail Cataldi third (33). Cataldi had a chip-in at No. 15. Barbara Esposito had a chip-in at No. 14 and No. 18.
MEADOWLANDS MISSFITS
The Meadowlands Missfits played June 16 at the Meadowlands Golf Course. The format was the worst three holes back to par. Thelma Albrecht was first (55). Linda Blewitt was second (57), Mary Griffin third (58), Gwen Jerome fourth (59), Debbie Hoffer fifth and Libby Spivey sixth (61).
Debbie Hoffer had a hole-in-one on No. 15.

Results from June 16: Piper to Bay flight: A first-place tie with a -32 were Gary Swanson, Barney Evangelista (who shot a 76 with a 20 handicap), Hal Foley and Paul Maultsby tied Gene Mcdonald, Al Bowman, Vince Niland and Pat Dibble. Third place went to Lee Parker, Don Capretta, Wayne Purdy and Dick Eby (-31).
Bay to Piper flight: First went to Bob Nicoletti, Jeff Smith, Billy Sirk and Frank Alcaraz (-25). Second went to John Whalen, Mike Matlock, Charles Richardson and Warren Higgons (-24). Three teams tied at -18 for third.
The SBMGA played June 18 at Sandpiper Bay. The game was one point for a birdie, no points for a par and minus-one point for bogey or worse using a four-man team.
In Bay to Piper flight, +15 was the magic number as three teams tied for first: John Hannigan, Frank DeStefon, Lee Parker and John Grossglass; Mike Finkelstein, Bob Arace, Lou Valenzuela and John Wilkes; Jeff Smith, Bob Zambri, P.J. Jones and Pat Dibble.
In the Piper to Bay flight, Al Bowman, Al Roeder, Bill Sarkisian and Bob Morley were first at +16.

BRUNSWICK PLANTATION
The Brunswick Plantation Ladies Golf Association played June 16. On the Azalea and Magnolia courses, Jane Fisher and Emily Campbell were first (140). Emily Campbell and Barbara Berinoto were second (144).
On the Dogwood and Azalea courses, Gloria Banta and Gail Jennings were first (133). Carrie Wilson and Gloria Banta were second (141).
Marsha Clark made a birdie at the fourth hole at Azalea.

STABLEFORD TOURNEY
An Al Graham Stableford tourney was played June 18 at Carolina Shores. The team of Tony Languell, Roger Thompson, Jim Garrigan and McDunough finished first with a plus 4, defeating seven other teams. Second place with a plus 3 were Tony Sneska, Steve Jones, Buddy Broadnax and Bill Teschler. Third went to Leo Jarmusz, George Bridges, Joe Fioravanti and Chet Drouin with a minus 1. Fourth via a match of cards were Bill Gibbs, Dick Boyle, Gene Sanborn and Arnie Northrop. In the skins game, only three skins were given out. Two went to Jerry Strickler and one to Clyde Juergens.
SEA TRAIL MEN
The Sea Trail Men played a Flag Day Tournament June 17 on the Maples Course. Unused handicap shots were played on the back nine.
In fight A, Jim Stockton was first with 4 feet, 6 inches to hole at No. 11. John Markatos was second with nine yards to No. 11 and Dave Salisch was third with 1 inch to No. 10. Fourth place went to John Barton with 4 inches to No. 10. Lou DeVita was fifth with 11 inches at No. 10. Lee Sutton was sixth with 8 yards to No. 10. In second place, with 1-under par, was the team of Liz Boyer, Fran Thomas, Barb Wilson, Haywood Edmunson and John Beavers. Third place went to Deloris Gausch, Marian Johnson, Ralph Trimmer and Chuck Hornfeck.

The Brierwood Women’s Golf Association played June 17. The game was crossover (best nine of 18 holes less one-half handicap). In flight A net, Sue Janovic was first. Mary Schaack and Carolu Waldron were second (27). Janovic had the fewest putts (30).
In flight B net, Chris Miller was first (21). Alene Sterner was second (24). Shirley Groff and Jean Billie tied for third (25). Fewest putts were by Sara Baynton, Groff and Billie (36). Chip-ins were by Sherry Pittman at No. 4 and Schaack at No. 6.

The Brierwood Men’s Golf Association played June 16. The format was one gross ball and one net ball, cannot be the same ball. In first at 2-under par were Tom Arney, Odie Johnson, Tom Kronyac and a blind draw. In second at 1-over par were Harvey Hundley, Tom Bowen, Bob Janovic and Jim Pope. In third at 2-over par was the team of George Edwards, Mike Prokop, John Beavers and a blind draw and the team of Bernie Gruzlewski, Walt Wilson, Joe Brust and Bob Sterner.
The MGA played June 19, and the format was one best ball on the par 5s, two best balls on the par 4s and three best balls on the par 3s. In first at 25-under was the team of George Edwards, Chuck Hornfeck, Dick Baynton and Bob Sterner and the team of Bernie Gruzlewski, Al Ostrager, Guy De Rasmo and Jim Pope. In second at 19-under par were Dave Harder, Walt Wilson, Joe Brust and Tom Bowen. In third at 18-under par were Harvey Hundley, Odie Johnson, Morris Hall and Jack Harrison.
BRICK LANDING
Mary Biesack and Keith Webb won Brick Landing’s LGA Annual Member-Member Tournament June 18-19. The two- day tournament was a points tournament with each team receiving points on the better ball in the first round and both balls in the second round.
Biesack and Webb had a two-day total of 132 points. Jean Hasty and Ursula Styczynski came in second with 130 points. Irene Dowdy and B.G. Daniel placed third with 129 points, and Elsa Bonstein and Mary Cofer were fourth with 126 points. Eleven teams competed over the two days.
Birdies were carded in the first round by Keith Webb on No. 1 and No. 2, Bonnie Giehl on No. 1, Melody Baylor on No. 4, Dale Calhoon and Vivian Rowe on No. 11, Ursula Styczynski on No. 13 and Irene Dowdy on No. 14. Birdies in the second round were holed by Mary Biesack on No. 1, Lois Huber, Peg Campana and Barbara Karkut on No. 2, Irene Dowdy and Ellen Rogoff on No. 4 and B.G. Daniel and Ursula Styczynski on No. 15 Dale Calhoon chipped in for birdie in the first round on No. 13, and Vivian Rowe did the same in the second round on No. 4. The low-net winners were Gutheil and Cleveland (68).
THE CALABASHERS
The Calabashers played on June 20 at Woodland Valley. The winning team was the threesome of Wash Dayton, Charlie Weber and Bill Bowden (minus ). They won by point.
CAROLINA SHORES NINERS
The monthly game tournament was played. The format was to deduct the score of the two holes with the highest strokes. Nancy Harthausen and Phyliss Gumbrell were the winners.
Results of the June 12 matches: In flight A, low gross, Nancy Harthausen was first and Phyliss Gumbrell second.
In low net, Harthausen was first and Jean Sanborn second. In flight B, low gross, Bev Shaw was first and Ellie Girard second. In low net, Shaw was first and Rose Mary Jones second.
On June 19, the winner in flight A, low gross, was Gumbrell. Harthausen was second. Sanborn chipped in on the 15th hole. In low net, Joanne Riedel beat Harthausen by a match of cards.
In flight B, low gross, Shaw was first and Halla Cramer second, by a match of cards. In low net, Shaw was first and Cramer second.
THE RENEGADES
The Renegades traveled to Litchfield for their annual Ladies Away Event. On June 19 the matches were at Willbrook, where the format was to throw out a blind-draw hole (net score). The winner was Sharon Clark with a net 60.
Elaine Southard was second with a net 64. Jane Mahncke was third with a net 68. Donna Watkins and Elaine Southard tied for low putts with 33 putts each. The matches Friday were at the Litchfield Country Club, and it was a team low- net format. The winning team with a 312 was Donna Watkins, Kay Craig, Lin Penta and Kathy Harniman. Second place with a team score of 312 were Jan Kilgore, Jane Mahncke, Dee Gillin and Elaine Southard. Birdies were made by Kay Craig and Kathleen Brennan.

On June 16 Farmstead, Sid Pennington, Rich West, Joe Meo and a blind draw placed first with a 117. Teams scored two nets per hole. Cliff Musselman, Art Thompson, Steve Maiorca and Jim Kennedy were second with a 120. Closest- to-the-pin shots were won by Joe Gallo at No. 6, John Ogden at No. 12, Joe Meo at No. 15 and Jerry Rubin at No. 17.
On June 18 at Meadowlands, Jim Kennedy, Jen Dearborn, Art Thompson and Joe Gallo placed first with a 136. Teams scored one net and one gross per hole. John Methvin, Joe Meo, Larry Laws and Sid Pennington placed second with a 138.
On June 20 at Meadowlands, Joe Meo, Gerry Rubin, Sid Pennington and a blind draw won with a score of 140. Placing second were Jen Dearborn, Art Thompson, Ron Doeblin, and Jim Kennedy, who also scored a 140 but lost on a match of scorecards.
FARMSTEAD
The Players Golf Association played a game of cha-cha-cha June 19 at the Farmstead Golf Course. A match of cards was needed to determine the wining team. First with a 118 were Bob Butkevicius, John Ogden, John McCloy and Nick Samela. Second, also at 118, were Bill Favro, Ernie Schober and Bob Lange. Third at 120 were Dick Pearce, Bill Kasper, Ernie Weeks and Carl Price. Fourth were Don Clark, Alex Olmsted, George Griffin and a blind. Closest to the pin were Clark at No. 3, Butkevicius at No. 6, Price at No. 12 and Samela at No. 17.
