The Beachcombers played a modified Stableford tournament Jan. 2 at Cypress Bay. The winning team with a score of +17 was Paul Michal, Roger Dunham and Ed Kinney. Ed Kinney led the team with a +9.5 and an eagle on No. 15. Most over his points was Dennis McCann at +11.5. Low gross for the day was an 84 by Gary Gutheil and Paul Michal. Low nets were Ed Kinney at 65, Hal Riebesehl at 67, Dennis McCann at 68 and Roger Dunham at 69.


The Men’s Club Shootout was Saturday. George Jacob, Neil Nucci, Ted Lide and Bo Mularczyk were first (+16.0 points). Craig Bridgeman, Dick Brown, Bobby Jones and Dale Berkheimer were second (+4.5 points). Gene Bonstein, Glen Gayheart, Bob Grabb and a blind were third (0 points).

Individually, Gene Bonstein was first at +11.5 points, Alan Morrissey second at +7.0 points and Dick Brown third at +6.0 points.


The Brierwood Men’s Golf Association played a two best balls tournament Jan. 1. In first at 3-under par was the team of Dave Harper, Chuck Hornfeck and Tom Kronyak. In second at 1-under par was the team of George Edwards, Pat Capps and Tom Bowen. In third at even par was the team of Bob Sterner, Bob Weakley and Ralph Trimmer.


On Friday, the Calabashers played the played Cypress Bay Golf Course and used the Stableford as a format. The winning team was threesome of Hank Olson, Mike McCormack and Charlie Weber (+18). In second was the foursome of Bill Bowden, Woody Knox, Bill Miller and John Duthie (+16 ½). Low gross of day was Bill Bowden with an 84.



On Dec. 31 at Meadowlands, Frank Janton, Bob Jaeger, George O’Connell, Joe Gallo and a blind draw placed first with a 203. The five-man teams scored one gross and two nets per hole. Jim Kennedy, Steve Maiorca, John Methvin and Cliff Musselman placed second with a 208.

On Jan. 2 at the Meadowlands, Frank Janton, Cliff Musselman, Steve Maiorca and a blind draw placed first with a 202. Teams scored two nets and one gross per hole. Joe Meo, Ned Meier, Jim Kennedy and a blind draw placed second on a match of cards with a 217.

The Crow Creek Men’s League played Dec. 30 and used total team quota scores as the format. Finishing first was the team Jerry Dickson, Arnie Brownstein and John Sparks (-2). In second was the team of Bill Spencer, John Buddemeyer and Joe Russell (-5).

The Ocean Ridge Sunday couples golfed Dec. 28 at Panther’s Run. The format was two low nets on each hole, one from the men and one from the women. First: Frank Burianek, Doris McLaughlin, George James and Ann Turner at -19. Second: Tom Russell, Margo Russell, Al Keegan and Judy Keegan at -5.

Birdies: Doris McLaughlin at No. 6 and No. 11 (chip-in), Al Keegan at No. 11, Tom Russell at No. 16.

Low nets of 69 were by Doris McLaughlin and George James.

On Sunday at Panther’s Run, the game counted two nets on each hole (the lowest net score and the highest net score).

First: Roger Buck, Linda Buck, Bob Bradicich and Grace Bradicich at -2. Second: Tom Russell, Margo Russell, Al Bassett and Kathleen Bassett at +4. Third: George James, Ann Turner, Glenn Christiansen and Alice Christiansen at +6.

Birdies: Tom Russell at Nos. 7 and 8, Sue Kane at No. 2, Al Keegan at Nos. 5 and 16, Roger Buck at No. 5. Other chip-ins: Doris McLaughlin at No. 4 and Pat Brooks at No. 14. Low nets were Bob Bradicich and Ann Turner at 71, Tom Russell and Al Bassett at 70 and Roger Buck at 66.


The Ocean Ridge Ladies Golf Association played a tournament Dec. 31 at Lion’s Paw. The game was two nets on odd-numbered holes, with 68 being par. First place: Patsy Mays, Doris Fairchild and Ann Turner (-11). Birdies: Jeanne Maxon at Nos. 11 and 17.


On Dec. 31 at Panther’s Run, the format was two net scores, and three net scores on five specified holes. First: Bob Larkin I, George James, a blind draw and Clyde Crowl (-18). Second: Gordon Wicke, Dick Orndoff, Eric Dunham and Carl Schuster (-16, match of cards). Third: Ed McCloskey, Glenn Christiansen, Bill Edwards and Bob Ludman (-16). Fourth: Tom Johnson, George Woodard, John Olio and Emil Gnam (-16). Closest to the pin at No. 2: the team of Tom Johnson, George Woodard, John Olio and Emil Gnam; No. 11, the team of George Brooks, Norm Fitzgerald, Joe Coffini and Bill Hotop.


The format for the tourney Monday was one gross and two nets. On the Sand and Piper courses, John Radziewski, Bob Eason, Al Bowman and Ron Donley finished at -13 to take first. With a score of -7, four teams were tied for second. On the Bay and Sand courses, winning at -19 was Bob Nicoletti, Tom Townsend, Lee Parker and Frank Gajderowicz. In second at -15 was the team of Chris Christie, Dean Montgomery, Mike Matlock and Guy Tavel.
