A cold start and a frost delay on the course limited the number of Sandpiper Bay Men’s Golf Association players Jan. 14, but play continued by switching games to Chicago. In spite of the weather, there were 33 players, enough for two flights.
Sand to Piper flight: John Murphy and Al Paynter each had a +4 and shared first. Third was a three-way tie at +3 among Don Moore, Ed Kilgoar and Dick Eby. Sixth went to Joe Cramer with a +2.
Bay to Sand flight: First with a +8—best score of the day—Guy Tavel. Second was a tie between Bob Eason and Phil Whittaker at +6. Fourth went to Tom Ioven at +5. Fifth was a +4 by Tony Hanna and John Hannigan.
On Jan. 12, game was the waltz. Sand to Piper flight: A -30 was the round of the day by Gordy Coulson, Vince Niland, Bob Arace and Otto Nelke. Second went to a -23 by Phil Whittaker, Jeff Smith, Guy Tavel and Frank Gajderowicz. Third belonged to Sam Milora, Al Bowman, John Grossglass and Bill Pohlman at -16.
Bay to Sand flight: A -18 took first by Bob Eason, Chuck Denny, Burnie Fowler and a blind draw. Second was a -16 was by the team of John Radziewski, Ron Yuricek, Lee Parker and Al Paynter. Third went to a -14 by John Whalen, Tom Townsend, Gary Pollock and Doug Williams.

Second: John Goss, John Koester, Larry Clark and Andy Ward at +8 1/2. Third + 1 1/2 were Chuck Murray, Bobby Poulton, Billy James and Randy Cogdill. At even in fourth were Tony Nye, Dave Enfeld, Richard Marnell and J.J. O’Donnell. Lee Harrison, Tommy Calvert, Tom Weller and Bob Champion were fifth at -2.
Twenty-nine of the 44 players participated in the skins game. J.J. O’Donnell had two skins. Larry Clark, Jim Milstead, Tom Weller, Chuck Lengyl and Bobby Poulton had one skin each.
