Calabash Elks
Mike Coleman won the A Flight with a net 59 in the Calabash Elks Tournament April 9 at Brierwood Golf Club. Mike Casper came in second with 71. Don Mimm won the B Flight with 64, and Bob Herre came in second with 65. Fred Ortiz won the C Flight with 65, and Mike McCormack was runner-up with 66. Closest-to-the pin winners were Jim Schuster (No. 3), Ed Kerr (No. 9 and No. 17), and Jerry Way (No. 14).
Beachcombers
The Beachcombers played April 11 at Carolina Shores Country Club with Gary Guthiel taking first place with a low gross 83. Stu Cleveland finished second with 87. Other scores were Hal Riebeshel (87) and Jim Beairsto (88).
Low-net winners were Dick Conley with 64, Gary Guthiel and Bob Brownley (66), Ed Kinney (67), Ed Hennessey and Bill Cameron (68) and Jim Beairsto (69).
The winning team in the modified Stableford was Jim Hayden, Bill Cameron, Ed Hennessey and Ed Kinney with a score of 23.
Ocean Ridge Couples
Ocean Ridge Sunday Couples played their event on Panthers Run. Scores were based on two low nets per hole per team.
First place at minus-26 were Roger and Linda Buck and Lynn and Bev Furman.
Second place at minus-17 were Gordon and Kathy Wicke and Don and Peggy Rowland.
Third place was a triple tie at minus-16 with the teams of Bill and Marita Sasser, Jeanne Maxon and Doris Mclaughlin; George and Pat Brooks and Wayne and Jan Cameron; and Rich and Sue Kane and George James and Ann Turner.
Low nets were Doris Mclaughlin and George Brooks (71), Roger Buck and Don Rowland (69), Linda Buck (68), Lynn Furman (67), and George James (66).

The Calabashers played Land-O-Lakes at Whiteville April 12 using a Stableford format. Larry Bollinger, Wash Dayton, Bob Smith and Joe Roundy won with an 11. Rod Rodriguez, John Duthie, Loren Ruck and Bill Bowden took second with an 11.
Bob Smith had the low gross with 84.

Jim Kennedy, Jody Serensits, Boomer Needham and Joe Gallo won the team event April 7 at Farmstead with 124. Teams scored one net from A Flight members and one from the B Flight. Sid Pennington, Ned Meier, John Ducey and Joe Meo placed second with 130.
Jim Kennedy, Bob Jaeger, Rich West and John Methvin won the team event April 9 at Meadowlands with 128. Teams scored three nets on holes 1-6, two nets 7-12 and one net 13-18. Ned Meier, Larry Laws, Joe Meo and Joe Gallo placed second with 135.
Ron Doeblin, Sid Pennington and Rudy Wimberger won the team event April 11 at Meadowlands with 93. Teams scored one net on the par fours, two nets on the par fives, a net and gross on the par-three holes. Jim Kennedy, Ned Meier and Joe Gallo placed second with a match of cards.
Fadeaways
The Fadeaways played at Azelia Sands April 11 in a modified Stableford tournament. Winning the front-nine competition with a score of 3 were Fred Welch, Pete Jelstrom, Hank Mattutat and Fred Langston. Winners of the back nine with 7 were Jack Christensen, Ed Peters, Bob Mecleary and Bill Woods.
The teams of Dennis Wise, John Koester and Mickey Blaze, and Jack Christensen, Ed Peters, Bob Mecleary and Bill Woods tied for the overall tournament title with 2.
Flight Winners were A Flight, Stan Kwasny (even), B Flight, Ed Peters (5), C Flight, Don Fidura (3) and D Flight, Fred Langston and Mickey Blaze (3).
Crow Creek Men
The Crow Creek Golf Club Men played a team event April 8. The format was three-man gross quota with each player’s net points added together for the team score.
Royal Philpott, Pat Connelly and Keith Forsey won the team event with 11. Jerry Dickson, John Huntey and Jack Corrick took second place with 5. Carl Graves, Brian Nordberg and Andy McCorison finished third with 1.
John Pennell won Flight A with 3. Pat Connelly won Flight B with 8. Jack Corrick won Flight C with 5.
Brunswick 25 Ladies
Theresa Galleto (Lockwood Folly) and Sandy Hulberg (The Lakes) tied for first place with 77 at Carolina National on April 7. Sue Hurley (Pine Valley) took third place in the first flight, followed by Pat Shutzman (Carolina National) who finished fourth, and Mona Dye (Brierwood) and Judy Nicoletti (Carolina Shores) tied for fifth.
The second flight was led by Marie Boyles (Executive Women’s Golf Association), with Mary Barclay (St. James) in second, Babs Macintosh (Wachesaw Plantation) third, Barb Guhl (Pine Valley) fourth, Barb Young (Pine Valley) fifth, and Carol Kelley (The Cape) sixth.
The third flight was won by Sherry Daun (St. James). Sally Duffy (Ocean Ridge) and Diana Wells (Carolina National) tied for second. Susan Crean (St. James), Pat Dickerman (Magnolia Greens), Jane Martini (Wilmington Municipal) and Linda Van Horn (Ocean Ridge) all tied for fourth.
Cathy Story (Ocean Ridge) won the fourth flight. Pam Brazeau (Burning Ridge) finished second. Linda Bergstrom (Carolina National) took third, Linda Painter (Executive Women’s Golf Association) fourth, Jan Howard (The Lakes) fifth and Sally Manifold (Carolina Shores) sixth.
Carol Byrne from Carolina National led the fifth flight, followed by Michelle Kozinetz (Island Green) in second and Bonnie Langslet (St. James) in third. Tied for fourth were Kay Pierson (Executive Women’s Golf Association), Barb Seelos (Ocean Ridge) and Cheryl Kobani (International Club at Myrtle Beach).
Janis Ortmeyer (Meadowlands) won the sixth flight. Beverly Ibbot (Meadowlands) took second. Betty Taylor (St. James) took third. Eileen Reddy (Meadowlands) and Gail Wayand (Black Bear) tied for fourth place. Ruth Rein (Black Bear) took sixth.

Grace Bradicich (Ocean Ridge) won the ninth flight. Peg Lawrence (Executive Women’s Golf Association) took second, followed by Barb Finn (Meadowlands) in third, Renee December (Brunswick Plantation) fourth, Mil Crane (Carolina National) fifth and Bobbie Davis (The Lakes) and Jeanne Millar (Tidewater) tied for sixth.

Renegades
The Renegades played at Carolina Shores Golf Course April 10.
Lin Penta, Barbara Malina, Martha Hannon and Jan Kilgore won the team game with 118. The scoring was based on two low nets per team. Carolyn Bosman, Laura Duncan, Kathy Harniman and Pauline Millsoky took second place with 119. Donna Watkins, Gloria Schroppe, Kathy Hahl and Sally Nolan finished third with 122.
Lin Penta won low gross with 97. Carolyn Bosman took second with 99, and Jean Falls finished third with 102.
Laura Duncan was the low-net winner with 67. Kin Penta finished second with 68. Martha Hannon took third with 69 (match of cards).
Gloria Schroppe won low putts with 28 and scored a birdie on No. 3.

The Sea Trail Men played April 8 on the Reese Jones Course in a two-man team best net ball in-flight.
Gene Method and Lee Sutton won the First Flight with 59, Stan Goldstein and Bill Kenny took second with 60, Dick Couch and Tony Novalis third with 61, and Norm Melanson with a blind draw finished fourth with 62 (match of cards).
Wayne Hellman and Jim Hunt won the B flight with 60 (match of cards). Ray Coakley and Gary Keife took second with 60, Allen Doolittle and Gary Greis third with 60 and Dennis deLagarde and John Goodrich fourth with 61.
Gary Fagan and Wayne McKee won the C Flight with 55. Joe Carpinello and Duane Lewis finished second with 59 (match of cards), John Johnsen and Alan Pitts third with 59 and Brad Dague and Jack Dambaugh fourth with 61.

The Players Golf Association
The team of Bob Davis, Don Chappell, Dick Pearce and Don Clark won the weekly Players Golf Association tournament at Meadowlands Golf Course. The game played was three-man team. Bob Butkevicius, Ray O'Donnell, Bob Lange and Jack Gorman took second. Bill Favro, Carl Price and Nick Samela finished third. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Bob Davis (No. 5), Bob Butkevicius (No. 8), Jack Gorman (No. 11) and Carl Price (No. 15).
Dick Pearce had a eagle on the par-5 No. 14. He used driver, 3-wood and pitched in with a wedge.
Carolina Shores Ladies
The Carolina Shores Ladies played the Queen Bee Tournament April 10. Marlene Cleary was the low-net overall winner with 67.
Flight winners First Flight, Judy Nicoletti (70), Second Flight, Barbara Juergens (72) and Third Flight, Karen Hertling (69).
Marlene Cleary and Phyllis Welch tied for low putts with 29. Judy Nicoletti was the low gross winner with 81.
Patty Buck recorded a chip-in at No. 9. Birdies were recorded by Judy Nicoletti (No. 1) and Marie Strickler (Nos. 9, 14 and 17).
Bricklanding Ladies
The Bricklanding Ladies Golf Association played April 10. Scoring was based on throwing out the three worst holes and subtracting the full handicap.
Irene Dowdy won the First Flight with 42. Keith Webb and Pat Christenbury tied for second with 48.
Lois Huber won the Second Flight with 44. Barb Karkut and Vivian Rowe tied for second with 49.
Polly Berkheimer won the Third Flight with 43. Bernice Logan finished second with 47 and Liz Brandt took third with 50.
Jackie Seidler had a birdie/chip-in (No. 2). Vivian Rowe had a birdie (No. 7) and Irene Dowdy had a chip-in (No. 9).

The Brierwood Women’s Golf Association played a game of “O.N.E.S.” April 8. Scoring is based on counting holes starting with letters O.N.E.S. and handicap.
Sara Lula was the low-gross winner in Flight A with 45. Mary Schaack and Sara McCullough tied for low net with 35. Nancy Kumlin had low putts with 29.
Carolu Waldron was the low-gross winner in Flight B with 48. JoAnne Davis was the low-net winner with 34 and Gloria Brkal had low putts with 29.
Rita DuGan was the low-gross winner in Flight C with 57. Sharon Beavers was the low-net winner with 38, and Alene Sterner had low putts with 35.

In the Sand to Piper Flight A, John Radziewski, Vince Niland, Bill Croxton and Ron Donley took first place with minus-24. John Hannigan, Joe Martere, Stan Cirkowski and Pat Dibble and Gary Swanson, Hal Foley, Guy Tavel and John Wilkes tied for second with minus-14.
In the Piper to Bay Flight, Dan Alsup, Lee Parker, Mike Matlock and John Grossglass won with minus-23. Second was the team of Gene Anderson, Paul Backman, Bill Spellicy and Don DeMore with minus-22. Norm Burgess, P.J. Jones, Marv Pethal and James Barker tied for third with Wayne Purdy, Tom Townsend, Don Bartholomew and Jim King with minus-16.
The Bay to Sand Flight A ended in a three-way tie at minus-21. Phil Whittaker, John Donnelly, Doug Stokes and Dick Eby tied with Al Hooker, J.J. Whalen (who shot 75), Barney Evangelsita and Doug Williams, and the team of Dan Copeland, Jack Hinte, Al Paynter and a blind draw.
Sea Trail Ladies
The Sea Trail Ladies played a nine blind holes tournament April 9 at the Jones course. The blind holes were Nos. 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16 and 18.
In the First Flight, Janice Bohlinger took first place with 39. Second through fourth places were determined by a match of cards with Joan Llewelyn finishing second (41), Sandy Reynolds third (41) and Judy Pusey fourth (41).
In the Second Flight, JoAnne Larson won first place with 36. Second through fourth placer were determined by a match of cards with Betsey Irwin, second (40), Maggie McClave, third (40) and Pat Sutton, fourth (40).
In the Third Flight, Lynn Wiedmann finished first with 37. Lorraine Kazan took second with 39. Ruth Apalinski was third with 40 (match of cards), and Linda Hogan was fourth with 40.
In the Fourth Flight, Joanna Brawley won with 40. Sandy Pilney took second with 43. Third and fourth places were determined by a match of cards with Madeline Dubas taking third (44) and Peggy Jo Oleson finishing fourth (44).
Birdies were scored by Janice Bohlinger (Nos. 13 and 15) and Louisa Clatterbuck (No. 2). Chip-ins were recorded by Janice Bohlinger (No. 7), Gail Cafaro (No. 11), Peggy Jo Oleson (No. 12) and Hal White (No. 14).
Brierwood Mixed Scramble
In the April 9 Brierwood Nine Hole Mixed Scramble event, Fran Thomas, Deloris Gausch, Bob Nobles and Haywood Edmundson won with three over par. Tied for second place at five over par were Barb Wilson, Marianne Nobes, Walt Wilson and John Beavers, and the team of Rita DuGan, Sharon Beavers, Glen Green and Ralph Trimmer.
Al Graham Stableford Tourney
Don Rose, Ray Girard, Clyde Juegens and Joe Lowry won the Al Graham Stableford Tourney via a match of cards with plus-5. Second place went to Mal MacRaild, Doug Falls, Arnie Northrop and Gean Sanborn also with a 5. Third place went to Bill Marsh, Rich Hamilton, Gary Hertling, Roger Thompson with 3. Fourth place was Dick Polanski, Leo Jarmusz, Ed Morris and a blind draw with 2. Nine teams were in this tourney.
Winning skins were George Balbach (1), Dan Roberts (1), Bill Marsh (1) and Keith Rogerson (1).
Carolina Shores Men
The Carolina Shores Men played a team event April 6. The scoring was based on two low-net scores for each hole.
Jerry Strickler, Paul Jordan, Gary Hertling and Joe Fioravanti won with 116 (match of cards). John Dougherty, Clyde Juergens, Don Rose and Don Errickson finished second with 116. Bob Barrett, Arnie Northrop, Rich Boyle and Monty Craig were third with 120 (match of cards). Gary Stewart, John Crane, Bill Harniman and a blind draw were fourth with 120.
Gary Stewart was the low-gross winner, and Joe Fioravanti was the low-net winner.
Closest-to-the-pin were Gerry Strickler (No. 3), Gary Stewart (No. 7), John Dougherty (No. 12) and Paul Jordan (No. 17).
Winning skins were Don Errickson, Joe Fioravanti, Rich Boyle, John Kain, John Crane, Jerry Strickler and Frank Talak.

The Ocean Ridge Men played a team event March 7 at Lion’s Paw. The scoring was based on counting one net score, two net scores, three net scores and then repeating.
Jack Siddle, Guy Giancarlo, Reece Hoben and Bill DeHaan won with minus-12. Tom Johnson, George Cassidy, Bill Sasser and John Wehner took second with minus-11 (match of cards).
Bill Walker, Roger Buck, Joe Vankoski and Lynn Furman finished third. George Brooks, Mike Sullivan, Chuck Fitzgerald and Bob Fatzinger finished fourth with minus-11. Rich O'Connor, Bob Larkin (2), Larry Wright and Joe Coffini were fourth with minus-9.
A team event was played March 9 at Tiger's Eye. The scoring was based on two net scores AD/BC. Rich O'Connor, Mel Scott, Ed Gruver and Joe Neal won with minus-26. Bob Distel, Stan Mays, Wayne Underhill and Norm Fitzgerald were second with minus-25. Buzz Clark, Bob Larkin (1), Hank Vogt and Dave Arnold finished third with minus-24. Gary Prock, Doug MacDonald, John Olio and Bob Hartman were fourth with minus-22. Bill Wakefield, Roger Buck, George James and Carl Schuster were fifth with minus-20.
Carolina Shores Niners
An individual event was played March 27 at Carolina Shores.
In Flight A, Nancy Harthausen and Janice Garvin tied for low gross with Barb Allen finishing second. Nancy Harthausen won low net, and Janice Garvin and Joanne Riedel tied for second.
In Flight B, Mary Fran Ryon won both low gross and low net. T.J. Bagley finished second in both low gross and low net.
Chip-ins were scored by Nancy Harthausen (No. 11) and Mary Fran Ryon (No. 5).
In the individual event held April 3 at Carolina Shores, Janice Garvin won first place in the low gross in Flight A, and Jean Sanborn and Joanne Riedel tied for second. Jean Sanborn won the low net, and Joanne Riedel finished second.
In Flight B, T.J. Bagley won the low gross, and Rosemary Jones finished second. T.J. Bagley and Rosemary Jones tied for first in low net, and Gwy DeRenne took second.
In the individual event April 10 at Carolina Shores, Janice Garvin won first in both low gross and low net in Flight A. Phyliss Gumbrell took second in low gross, and Joanne Riedel finished second in low net.
In Flight B, Halla Cramer won both low gross and low net. Ellie Girard and Rosemary Jones tied for second in low gross, and Rosemary Jones took second in low net.
T.J. Bagley won the game of the day, low putts. Janice Garvin and Barb Allen tied for second.

The Brierwood Men’s Golf Association played a two best ball event April 7. Al Bloom, Al Ostrager, Joe Brust and George Edwards won with minus-24. Jim Robinson, Paul Salerno, Chuck Hornfeck and Bob Janovic finished second with minus-22. Bob Snopek, Bernie Gruzlewski, Jack Harrison and Mike Prokop were third with minus–21.
A two best ball event was played April 10. Paul Salerno, Odie Johnson, Bob Sterner and a blind draw won with minus-24. Harvey Hundley, John Beavers, George Edwards and Tom Bowen were tied for second with minus-22, with the team of Dave Harper, Guy Derasmo, Joe Brust and a blind draw. Al Ostrager, Bernie Gruzlewski, Marty Brkal and Jack Harrison finished third with minus-20.
Farmstead/Meadowlands Men
A Stableford Shamble was held April 8 at Meadowlands.
Roger Geitzen, Bill Favro, Earl Dushane and Bill Kasper won the overall with 22. Paul Hourigan, Bob Wiltbank, Pat Finnegan and Gordon Much were second with 19. Kerry Ortmeyer, Paul Groves, Duane Durban and Nick Caldero were third with 15.

In the Low Gross Flight B, Jim Burke won with 91. Dennis Sullivan was second with 96. Pat Perryman and Ray McDowell tied for third with 98.
In the Low Net Flight A, Charlie Dugong was first with 68. Bruce Kertcher and Mark Segar tied for second with 70. Tom Ditzler took third with 71.
In the Low Net Flight B, Jim Burke won with 68. Dennis Sullivan was second with 69. Pat Perryman finished third with 72.
Closest-to-the-pin winners on No. 12 were Larry Frazier, Flight A, and Jim Burke, Flight B.
