BRICK LANDING LGA
The league day game was birdies or better. The game was based on the total of all net birdies or better scored in the round. The first-flight winners were a tie between Mary Biesack and Keith Webb at 7. Irene Dowdy was third at 6. Cathy Shanley and Barbara Karkut tied for first in the second flight at 7. Jackie Seidler came in third at 6. Pat Baumgartner took first in the third flight at 7. Bernice Logan was second at 5 and Peg Agrimonti placed third at 4.
Birdies: Mary Biesack on No. 18, Keith Webb on No. 1, Dale Calhoon on No. 12, Maria Medici on No. 2, Cathy Shanley on No. 4 and Irene Dowdy on No. 9 and No. 13. Bernice Logan had a chip-in on No. 12.
MEN’S SPORTS CLUB
The weekly tournament was July 28 (two best net). In first was the team of Glen Gayheart, John McGuirt, Larry Agrimonti and Ron Wetherington at -32. In second was the team of Dave Biesack, Bill Healy, Bob Melleky and a blind draw at -29. Skins: Alan Morrissey, Ron Wetherington, Bill Wells, Jim Edes one each. Bob Melleky, Mike O’Brien, Jim McAvoy two each.
The shootout was Saturday. Glen Gayheart, Chuck Dixon, Pete Fedeli and Dave Igelman were first (+11.5 points). Dave Biesack, Bob Melleky, Ron Wetherington and Brian Walker were second (+7.5 points). Jim Barrett, Bob Gorman, Dick Giehl and Owen Letter were third (+6.0 points).
Individually, Dave Biesack was first with +8.0 points. Dick Giehl was second with +5.5 points. Owen Letter was third with +5.5 points.
The team of Carola Hornfeck, Fran Thomas and Larry Boyer finished first at even par in the Brierwood nine-hole mixed scramble July 29. Marian Johnson, Marianne Nobes and Bob Nobes were 2-over par for second. Finishing tied for third was the team of Cindy Graves, Deloris Gausch, Sharon Beavers and Ralph Trimmer and the team of Rita DuGan, Glen Green, Chuck Hornfeck and Odie Johnson.
The format for the Brierwood Women’s Golf Association event July 28 was throw out two holes on the front nine and two holes on back nine, then subtract one-half handicap. In flight 1, Mary Schaack was first with a net of a 57 and also had fewest putts (28). In flight 2, first was Rita DuGan with a net of 60. Fewest putts were by Sara Baynton (32). In flight 3, Jean Lacerenza was first with a net of 65. Gloria Brkal had fewest putts (29). Chip-ins: Mary Schaack on No. 5 and Rita DuGan on No. 8.

On July 29 at Meadowlands, Hugh Chinn, John Methvin, Ned Meier and Rich West placed first on a match of cards with a 144. Team scoring was two nets per hole. Second went to Steve Maiorca, Bob Jaeger, George O’Connell and John Ogden.
On July 31 at Meadowlands, Jim Kennedy, Ned Meier, John Methvin and Ted Holcomb placed first with a 145. Teams scored two nets on the par-4s and par-5s and two gross on the par-3s. Sid Pennington, Ron Doeblin, John Ducey and Jen Dearborn were second with a 155.
On July 27 at Farmstead, Ron Doeblin eagled the 455-yard par-5 14th. He used a driver, a 3-wood and chipped in with a pitching wedge.
Results of the event July 29 at Carolina Shores. In the A flight, Don Hunt was first with a net 65. In the B flight, Lynn Harbold, Guy Lachapelle and Fred Ortiz tied for first with net 66s. In the C flight, Don Eisenman was first with a net 63.
Closest to the pin: On No.3, Mike Coleman, 13 feet. On No. 7, Bob Pidgeon and Rich Norcia tied at 4-0. On No. 12, Fred Ortiz, 6-0.
On July 27, the Calabash VFW played its weekly modified Stableford match at the Sea Trail Jones and Byrd courses. First: Billy McCormick, Davey Hutchison, Vince Krasniewicz and Pat Perryman at +4.5. Second: Tom Tucker, Billy James and Joe Ribaudo at -4.5. Third: Bobby Poulton, Durwood Jackson and Jim Milstead at -5. Finishing fourth at -9 were Bob Turner, Tony Nye, Pete McGerr and Rod Rodriguez. Twenty-six players participated in the skins’ match. Ken Anthony and Davey Huttchinson had one skin each.

CAROLINA SHORES NINERS
Betty Kibblehouse won low gross and low net for the A flight in the Carolina Shores Niners’ tournament July 30. Jean Sanborn finished second. Susan Jarrell finished first in low gross and second in low net in flight B. Rose Mary Jones was runner-up in low gross and Susan Jarrell second in low net by a match of cards.
On July 23, Betty Kibblehouse in flight A beat Jean Sanborn for low gross and finished second in low net with Sanborn second. Gwyn DeRenne won low gross and net for B flight while Susan Jerrell was runner up.
CROW CREEK MGA
The Crow Creeks Men’s Golf Association traveled July 28 to Sandpiper Bay for its competitive round. Using quota points, the competition included three-man teams, two-man teams and individual best net quota points. Three-man team results: 1. Brian Nordberg, Richard Bye and Pat Connelly; 2. Jerry Dickson, John Buddemeyer and Joe Russell. Two-man team winners: 1. Ed Darrow and Hal Gordon. T-2. Chris Yentema and Jerry Zimmerman; Ray Hickey and Gene Bellando. Individual best net quota points: Hal Gordon, Richard Bye and Pat Connelly.
CROW CREEK LGA
On July 28, the Crow Creek LGA played at Woodland Valley Golf Course (formerly Diamond Back). Crow Creek was closed for the week for maintenance. The game of the day was tee to green. The winner in flight 1 was Kathy Cody with a 52. The winner in flight 2 was Marsh Krug with a 68.
Kathy Cody had her first hole-in-one on No. 4, a 112-yard par-3. She used her 35-degree Bobby Jones hybrid. She also had a birdie on No. 3.
AL GRAHAM STABLEFORD
Joe McDonough, Jim Powell, Harry Creamer and Bill Marsh won the Al Graham Stableford tourney July 29 with score of +11. In second were Joe Fioravanti, Don June, Boots Bromwell and Don Rose at +7. Third went to Steve Jones, Don Foelbel, Ron Mac Dowell and a blind draw at +3.
Results of the modified Stableford July 29 at Crown Park. The foursome of Charley Schreck, Hank Beuke, Ed Peters and Hank Mattutat swept the front at +12, the back at +14 and overall at +26.
In the modified Stableford on Friday at the Maples, the front was won at even by Ted Peters, Jim Simmons and Bob Mecleary. The back was won at -4 by Fred Welch, Frank Case, Jack Christensen and Donnie Studds. Overall at -6 was won by Ted Peters, Jim Simmons and Bob Meclery. The Grand Strand Seniors Men’s Golf Association played its weekly event July 27 at Lion’s Paw Golf Links in Ocean Isle Beach. The format is stroke play with handicap. Each flight is awarded a low-gross and low-net winner. This week it had 96 golfers, so there were six flights, A through F. All par-3s have closest-to-the-pin awards for white and gold tees. Tying for second at +6 were Nick Samela, Ernie Weeks and Bob Butkevicius. Fifth at +3 were Bob Lange and Don Clark. Third went to Gary Swanson and Bob Eason with a net 32.5. Fifth went to Jim Bennett and Frank Testa with a score of 33. Sand Course: Wayne Purdy shot a net 29. Mike Matlock was second a 29.5 Third with a 30 was Ron Robichaud. Fourth went to Bob Arace and Bob Zambri with a score of 30.5.

Sea Trail Men played a four-man team, total low net event July 28 on the Maples Course. A flight: 1. Ron Dubas, Dick Lehrer, Gene Method and Ron Bombolis, 280; 2. SANDPIPER BAY MGA
The game July 27 was three net scores per hole off the best drive per foursome. Each player finishes hole from best drive. On the Bay to Sand course, two teams tied for first with a score of -48. John Donnelley, Norm Burgess, Bill Sirk and Otto Nelke tied with John Whalen, Don Moore, Dan Norman and John Wilkes. Third went to Ed Killgoar, Al Bowman, Butch Reeves and Frank Testa.
On the Sand to Bay Course, a -50 took first for Lou Zotter, Hugh Norman, Frank Gajderowicz and Don DeMore. Two teams tied for second with a -43. Chris Christie, Greg Scalzi, Bill Pohlman and Bill Spellicy tied with John Radziewski, Hal Foley, Charlie Richardson and a blind draw.
The game July 29 was four scores minus handicap per foursome.
Sand to Bay Course: Wayne Purdy, Bob Zambri, Don DeMore and Dick Eby shot a 21-under par to take first.
