The Brick Landing Ladies Golf Association played a best-15 round for its Aug. 27 league day by throwing out the worst three holes and deducting one-half handicaps. Irene Dowdy was the winner of the first flight with a 52. Carol Fredericks came in second with a 59 and Kathy Koegel was third with a 62. The second-flight winner was Barbara Karkut with a 59. Peg Agrimonti was second with a 62 and Pat Baumgartner came in third with a 69. Peggy Campana won the third flight with a 65. Lois Huber took second with a 71 and Bernice Logan came in third with a 75.
Peggy Campana birdied No. 2 and Irene Dowdy posted a birdie on No. 9. Bernice Logan had a chip-in on No. 14.

MEN’S SPORTS CLUB
The weekly tournament was Aug. 25. The format was two best nets. In first was the team of Ed Lakey, Mike O’Brien, Chuck Dixon and Ted Lide at -30. Skins: Mike O’Brien and Al Zyga, two each; Bill Healy, one.
The shootout was Saturday. Jim Edes, Dwight Christenbury, Bill Fredericks and Alan Morrissey were first (+2.5 points). Gene Bonstein, Bob Gorman, Huck Dixon and Bob Grabb were second (+1.0 points). Glen Gayheart, John McGuirt, Owen Letter and a blind draw tied for third at -1.5 points with Bob Koegel, Mike O’Brien, Ted Lide and Mike Mattera.

BRIERWOOD SCRAMBLE
The team of Marianne Nobes, Carolyn Arney and Wayne McGlothlin finished first at even par in the Brierwood Wednesday mixed scramble Aug. 26. In second was the team of Deloris Gausch, Nancy McGlothlin and John Beavers. The team of Carola Hornfeck and Larry Boyer finished third. In fourth were Sharon Beavers, Chuck Hornfeck and Odie Johnson.

The format for the Brierwood Women’s Golf Association event Aug. 25 was odd holes minus one-half handicap. In flight 1, Betty Gabor and Cathy Clemmons tied for first low net with 29s. Betty Gabor had the fewest putts (27). In flight 2, first low net were Sara Baynton and Ruth Linder with 32s. Fewest putts were by Bynton (29). A birdie was made by Betty Gabor on No. 3.

In the B flight, Halla Cramer came in first and second in low gross and low net and Rose Mary Jones took second in both. Doris Pearce had the fewest putts (16). Halla Cramer had a chip-in on No. 8.
In the tournament on Aug. 6 at Carolina Shores, Betty Kibblehouse had low gross and low net in the A flight and Joanne Riedel came in second in both. In the B flight, Gwyn De Renne took low gross and low net. Rose Mary Jones came in second in both.
CLUB 25 CHAMPIONSHIP
Dianne Belair (Prestwick) and Carol Kelly (The Cape) won low gross and low net honors in Brunswick County Club 25 ladies golf league championship Aug. 24-25, playing at Panther’s Run and Tiger’s Eye at Ocean Ridge Plantation.
Belair carded a pair of 75s, winning the tournament by four strokes over Suzanne Moro (Whispering Pines). Carol Kelly’s net total of 138 gave her the net championship.
Belair and Moro took first and second gross in the first flight, followed by Mona Dye of Brierwood. Heidi Cherry (Myrtle Beach National) was the low net in the first flight, followed by Candace Cochrane (Sandpiper) and Laura Hendrick (Bald Head Island).
Second-flight winners were Carol Kelly (Cape) with low gross, followed by Barb Cleghorn (Whispering Pines) in second and Sally Duffy and Linda Van Horn, both of Ocean Ridge, in third. Jeannie Rosberg (Grand Strand Golf Association) took low net, followed by Linda Bergstrom (Carolina National) and Ann Bryan (Castle Bay), who tied for second net.
Amy Hurst (Legends) took low gross in the third flight, followed by Denise Maynard and Lorraine Heroux, both of Meadowlands, in second and third. Judy Hardin (Black Bear) won the net division in this flight, followed by Nancy Demuth (The Cape) and Ann Phlegar (Carolina National).
Betsy Bergstrom (Rivers Edge) won the fourth flight. Diana Wells (Carolina National) came in second and Karla Reens (St. James) third. Pauline Cluck (Wizard) took low net, and Pat Dickerman (Magnolia Greens), Pat Abell (Brierwood) and Sue Keylor (Olde Pointe) tied for second net.
Fifth-flight winners were Bev Carter (Black Bear) with low gross and Judy Carpenter (St. James), Bev Ibbott (Meadowlands) and Cheryl Hankinson (Magnolia Greens) tied for second. In a game where only par-4s with one-half handicaps count, Sharon Clark won the Renagades weekly tournament with a 38. Second was Karen Hertling with a 42 on a match of cards over Martha Hannon. Sharon Clark had low gross with a 96. Carol Groner had a 97 and Karen Hertling shot a 104. Sharon Clark also won low net with a 69 on a match of cards over Martha Hannon. Carol Groner came in third with a 73.

The game Aug, 26 was count one gross and one net score per hole. Bay to Sand: A -13 by Mike Finkelstein, Doug Williams, Bill Zanzalari and a blind draw took first. Second went to a -11 by John Radziewski, Al Bowman, Lee Parker and Chuck Maglio.
