BRICK LANDING LGA

The Brick Landing Ladies Golf Association league game Sept. 3 was 25-44-33: Players picked their two best par-5s, four best par-4s and three best par-3s and deducted one-half handicaps for score. Mary Biesack was the winner in the first flight with a 27. Second place was a three-way tie at 29 among Irene Dowdy, Elsa Bonstein and Carol Fredericks. The second-flight winner was Lois Huber with a 26. Peggy Agrimonti came in second at 27. Kathy Koegel and Jackie Seidler tied for third at 28. Ursula Styczynski and Peggy Campana tied for first in the third flight with 29s. Sue Nelson was third with a 32.

Mary Biesack had a chip-in birdie on No. 2. Kathy Koegel birdied No. 2 and Elsa Bonstein had a birdie on No. 5. Peg Agrimonti chipped in on No. 15 and Barbara Karkut chipped in on No. 12.

BRIERWOOD MIXED SCRAMBLE

The team of Carolyn Arney, Rita Dugan and Bob Nobes came in first in the Brierwood nine-hole mixed scramble Sept. 2, shooting a 2-under par. Second at even par went to the team of Tom Arney, Ralph Trimmer, Marian Johnson, Carola Hornfeck and the team of Chuck Hornfeck, Odie Johnson, Deloris Gausch and Glen Green. Third went to the team of Larry Boyer, Jack Harrison, Fran Thomas and Marianne Nobes.

BRIERWOOD WGA

The format for the Brierwood Women’s Golf Association event Sept. 1 was low gross, low net. In flight one, Mary Schaack won low gross with a 97 and Janice Owens won low net with a 73. Marje Roach and Betty Gabor tied for fewest putts, with 32.

In flight two, low gross was won by Sara Baynton with a 117 and Ruth Linder won low net with an 80. Sara and Ruth tied with the fewest putts, with 31. Chip-ins: Janice Owens on No. 3 and Ruth Linder at No. 13.

On Aug. 30 at Farmstead, Ron Doeblin, Ned Meier, John Ducey, John Methvin and Joe Gallo placed first with a 138. The format for the five-man teams was cha-cha-cha. Bob Jaeger, Sid Pennington, Von Hincher, Hugh Chinn and Joe Meo were second.

On Sept. 3 at Meadowlands, Ned Meier, Bob Jaeger, Cliff Musselman and Joe Gallo placed first with a 143. Teams scored one net on holes 1-6, two nets on 7-12 and three nets on 13-18. Von Hincher, John Ogden, John Methvin and a blind draw were second.

On Friday at Meadowlands, Ned Meier, Joe Meo, Steve Maiorca and Jim Kennedy placed first with a 139. Teams scored two nets on par-3 and par-4 holes and a net and a gross on the par-5s. Von Hincher, Cliff Musselman, Sid Pennington and a blind draw placed second a match of cards, edging out Ron Doeblin, Rich West, Bob Heins and Joe Gallo. Ninety-two year old Joe Meo beat his age, shooting an 87.

The Crow Creek Men’s League was accommodated Sept. 1 at Sandpiper Bay, where it fielded seven two-man teams for its weekly competition.

“Sandpiper Bay continues to be in the best condition we’ve seen there in a long time, and we were very pleased with their reception and willingness to have us play at their course this week,” Richard Bye said.

Hal Gorden and Bob Lesko finished first. Second went to John Buddemeyer and Joe Millard. Third went to Don “Jake” Manning and Chris Yentema. Best net A flight winners were Bob Lesko, Jake Manning and John Sparks. Individual best net B flight winners were Hal Gorden, Ray Hickey and Joe Millard.

Hal Moore, Don Clark, Jim Marsh and Ray Girard scored a 121 and won the weekly Players Golf Association tournament at Meadowlands. Game played was cha-cha-cha. Second with a 129 were John Calabrese, Bob Flath, Wil Garvin and Ernie Schober. Third at 130 were Ernie Weeks, Nick Samela, Bill Russell and a blind draw. Closest to the pin were Jack Gorman at 5, Bob Buktkevicius at 8 and 11 and John Calabrese at 15.

PIPERETTES

On Sept. 2, a net tourney, minus one-half handicap, was played twice at the Bay Course. If the golfer bettered her score on a hole, the better score was substituted. 1. Ann Pollock, 32; 2. Mary Stern, 32.5; T-3. Marilyn Schenck and Kathie McIlroy, 33. Birdies: Kathie McIlroy, Bay No. 7.

The Piperettes had their first shootout tournament Sept. 3. The format consisted of 10- person flights. Everyone in the flight teed off at the same time and the person with the highest score on the first hole was eliminated. If there was a tie, there was a shootout to determine who would be eliminated. This continued for nine holes until one golfer remained. First flight: 1. Mique Luckett, 2. Joanne Clements, 3. Kathie McIlroy. Second flight: 1. Madonna Snyder, 2. Sharon Pies, 3. Sharon Millar. Judy Nicoletti was the chairwoman, assisted by Kathy Manning and Joanne Orendorf.

REBELS

On Friday, players drew a blind partner from the opposite course and played low net combined total scores. The Sand and Piper and Bay and Sand courses were used. First at 130 were Harvey Stratton and Don Bartholomew. Second at 132 were Gene McDonald and Al Paynter. Third at 133 were Jack Hinte and J.J. Whalen. Fourth at 135 were Mike Finkelstein and Bill Spellicy. Fifth at 137 were Chris Christie and Hugh Norman. Sixth at 141 were Mike Casagranda and a blind draw. Closest to the pin: at No. 2 Sand, Don Bartholomew; at No. 6 Sand, Bill Lester.

RENEGADES

In a team game of two low nets, the winning team, with a score of 142, was Kathy Hahl, Martha Hannon, Kay Craig and Sharon Clark. Second with a 146 were Dee Gillin, Gloria Schroppe, Kathy Harniman and Karen Hertling. Third with a 149 were Teddy Altreuter, Betty Weaver, Mary Fran Ryon and Barbara Malina. The World Amateur Tournament was using Sandpiper Bay Sept. 2, so the league got to play the Bay Course twice. The game was count the three best net scores per hole.

First flight: The team of Al Hooker, Harvey Stratton, Don Bartholomew and Bill Soellicy turned in a score of -31 to take first by a wide margin. Second was the team of Gene McDonald, Ralph Bowman, P.J. Jones, and John Wilkes at -18. With a -16 the team of Bob Radcliffe, Mike Matlock, Don DeMore and Al Paynter were third. Second flight: A -27 by Hannigan, Mike Finkelstein, Joe Martere and a blind draw took first. Second was a -24 by John Donnelly, Lee Parker, Bill Pohlman and Frank Alcaraz.
