The Brick Landing Men’s Club weekly tournament was Nov. 10. The format was flighted individual stroke play. Flight one: Gene Bonstein, net 69; Dave Biesack, net 71; Al Zyga, net 73. Flight two: Larry Agrimonti, net 64; Bill Shanley, net 69.

The Brick Landing Men’s Club Shootout was Nov. 14. Jim Edes, Pete Fedeli, Eric Nelson and Bob Grabb were first (+6.0 points). Ray Audette, Bob Mularczyk, Dick Brown and Bill Wells were second (+1.0 points). Butch Cunningham, Mike O’Brien, Owen Letter and Ron Wetherington were third (-3.0 points). Individually, Pete Fedeli was first with +6.0 points. Dick Brown was second with +2.5 points. Dave Biesack, Larry Agrimonti and Mike O’Brien tied for third with +2.0 points.


The format was two best balls on the par-3s and pars-4s and three best balls on the par-5s. In first at 23 under were Al Bloom, Chuck Hornfeck, Bob Janovic and Jim Pope. In second at 17 under were George Edwards, Dave Harper, Les Craft and Mike Prokop. In third at 9 under were Larry Boyer, Paul Salerno, Marty Brkal and Jack Harrison.


In the Brierwood Women’s Golf Association play Nov. 10, the format was low gross, low net. In the first flight, Sue Janovic took first (95). Betty Gabor and Cindy Northrup tied for low net with 68s. Northrup had the fewest putts, 30. The second-flight low gross was won by Marianne Nobes (111). Ruth Linder had low net (72). Both tied at fewest putts (32).

Chip-ins were made by Mary Schaack at No. 1, Betty Gabor at No. 13 and Marianne Nobes at No. 5.


On Nov. 9 at Oyster Bay, Von Hincher, Ron Doeblin, John Methvin and Cliff Musselman were first with a 141. Teams scored two nets per hole. Jim Kennedy, Rich West, Hugh Chinn and Joe Meo were second.

On Friday at Meadowlands, Jim Kennedy, Von Hincher and John Ducey were first with a 75. Three-man teams scored one net per hole. Ron Doeblin, Cliff Musselman and Joe Gallo were second.


The Calabash VFW played its weekly modified Stableford match Nov. 16 at Farmstead Golf Links. Tied in first with +4.5 was the team of Tom McCormack, John Koester, Durwood Jackson and Art Dobbs and the team of Tom Leach, Tom Childs, Bob Sobota and Lee Harrison. Second: Dick Sobota, Pete McGerr, Ken Anthony and Tom O’Brien at +2. Third: Bob Champion, Billy James, Andy Ward and Rich Murray at +1.5. Tied in fourth with -1 were the teams of Mark Mason, Bob Quinlan, Benny Bruno and John Parisi, Ray Barno, G. Sparta and Dean Decker. Andy Ward and Lee Harrison had one skin each. Low rounds of the day were Lee Harrison, 73; Tony Nye and Mark Mason, 84; and Andy Ward 85.


Winners in the Carolina Shores Niners event Nov. 5 in flight A, low gross, were Betty Kibblehouse and Jean Sanborn; low net, Jean Sanborn and Betty Kibblehouse. Taking top honors in flight B, low gross, were Susan Jarrell and Rose Mary Jones; low net, Susan Jarrell and Rose Mary Jones. Susan Jarrell chipped in on No. 9 and Janice Garvin on No. 10.

The Grand Strand Seniors Men’s Golf Association played its weekly event Nov. 9 at Black Bear Golf Club in Longs, S.C. The format is stroke play with handicap. Each flight is awarded a low-gross and low-net winner. This week it had 90 golfers, so there were six flights, A through F. All par-3s have closest-to-the-pin awards for white and gold tees. The following are the winners for this week:

A flight: Monte Beebe (71 gross), Ron Pazur (61 net). B flight: Bill Getler (84 gross), Bill Favro (68 net). C flight: John Olson (87 gross), Tom Conboy (70 net). D flight: Frank Godzwa (88 gross), Wayne Griffith (67 net). E flight: Bob Hanley (92 gross), Ray O’Donnell (68 net). F flight: Lefty Gomes (101 gross), Fred Kirksey (66 net). Results of the event Sunday at Tiger’s Eye. The format was two total nets on front nine and three total nets on the back nine. 1. Frank Burianek, Gordon Wicke, Pat Brooks, Kathy Giancarlo, -15; 2. George Brooks, Fred Bank, Kathy Wicke, Doris Mclaughlin, -5; 3. Rich Kane, Don Rowland, Dusty Burianek, Carol Russo. Low nets: Don Rowland, 64; Tom Waldron, 67; Dusty Burianek, 68; George Brooks, 69; Frank Burianek, 69; Gordon Wicke, 69.

Results of the three-net-scores event Nov. 9 at Panther’s Run. 1. Gordon Wicke, Phil Harrington, Russ Burdette, Bernie Powers (-13); 2. Joe Coffini, Roger Buck, Al Bassett, Bob Fatzinger (-11, match of cards); 3. Rick McCafferty, Ron Hiserodt, Bob Ludman, Earl Miller (-11, mc); 4. The game Nov. 9 was rotating tees: start on the red tee for the first hole, gold tee for the second and silver tee for the third. Continue rotation throughout the 18 holes. Count the three best balls per hole.

Sand to Piper: First went to the team of Chris Christie, Barney Evangelista, Tom Townsend and Bill Croxton with a total of 17 points. Second were Al Hooker, Wayne Purdy, Ed McTighe and John Wilkes, who scored 16 points. Piper to Bay: Sam Milora, Guy Tavel, Mike Casagranda and Paul Backman shot a +18 to take first. Second went to Chuck Denny, Gordy Coulson, Don DeMore and Tom Ioven with a +15. Bay to Sand: First was a tie at +22 between the team of Al Bowman, Lee Parker, Ralph Bowman and Tom Luckett and the team of Mike Finkelstein, Frank DeStefon, Billy Sirk and Ron Donley.


The couples tournament was played Sunday on the Maples Course. Front nine: 1. Betty Hewell and Vic Hahn, Inger and Gary Dickson; 2. Julie and John Sullivan, Frank and Karen Baker. Back nine: 1. Babe and Ben Madura, Darlene and Gregg DeCrane; 2. Anita and Bob Clark, Katie and Dick Bodner.


Frank DeStefon eagled the No. 1 handicap hole at the Bay Course, the par-4 eighth, on Nov. 9. He used his driver and holed a 4-iron approach shot from about 140 yards. He was playing with Mike Finkelstein, Billy Sirk and Ron Donley.
