During an outing Feb. 3 on the Sea Trail Jones Course, John Barton scored a hole-in-one on the 144-yd 17th hole. He used a 23-degree rescue club. It was his fourth hole-in-one.

BEACHCOMBERS

BRICK LANDING

The Brick Landing Men’s Sport Club weekly tournament was played Feb. 3. Format was two best nets. Jim Barrett, Jim Campana, Jerry Maloney and Gus Mast were first (-32). Glen Gayheart, Dick Brown, Bob Melleky and Eric Nelson were second (-29).

The Men’s Club Shootout was Saturday. Bill Fredericks, Tom Edwards, Jim Campana and Jerry Maloney were first (+12.5 points). Butch Cunningham, Mike O’Brien, Dale Berkheimer and George Dowdy were second (+6.5 points). Jim Edes, Kyle McMillan, Ray Collins and Dave Igelman were third (+6.0 points).

Individually, Bob Grabb was first with +9.5 points. Bill Fredericks second with +7.0 points. Tom Bianco was third with +5.0 points.

The Calabashers played a Stableford event Friday at the Cypress Bay Golf Course. The winning team was Al Wright, Charlie Weber, Larry Bollinger, and Ken Barr. Its score was +4.

On Feb. 2 at Farmstead, Frank Janton, Steve Maiorca, Jody Serensits and Joe Gallo placed first at 123. Format for the day was cha-cha-cha. Ron Doeblin, Bob Jaeger, John Ducey and John Ogden were second at 125.

On Friday at Tiger’s Eye, members played off the low handicap for individual net score. Jim Kennedy placed first in the A flight with an 87. Sid Pennington and Jen Dearborn tied for second with an 88. Jerry Rubin was fourth with a 90. George O’Connell and Steve Maiorca tied for fifth with a 94. In the B flight, Joe Gallo placed first with an 85. Boomer Needham shot an 86; John Ducey, a 91. Rich West and John Ogden tied for fifth with a 92.

The Grand Strand Senior Men’s Golf Association played its weekly event Feb. 2 at Myrtlewood Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The format is stroke play with handicap. Each flight is awarded a low-gross and low-net winner. This week it had 125 golfers, so there were six flights, A through F. All par 3s have closest-to-the-pin awards for white and gold tees. The event Feb. 2 was count two net scores on odd-numbered holes and three net scores on even-numbered holes.

Piper to Bay flight: The team of Sam Milora, Joe Cramer, Bob Morely and Frank Gajderowicz scored a -25 to take first. A -24 by the team of Denny Sams, Ed Kilgoar, Ron Donley and a blind draw was good enough for second.

Bay to Sand flight: The top team was J.J. Whalen, Wayne Purdy, Bobby Bryce and Jack Hinte at -30. Second went to Dan Copeland, Don Moore, Mike Matlock and John Wilkes with a -21.

SEA TRAIL COUPLES

The game Sunday was four-person teams, progressive 1-2-3. First: 130, Bob and Linda Perna and Nick and Diane Carcich. Second: 133, match of cards, John and JoAnne Barton and Frank and Nancy Santisi.
