Singles golf

The Wilmington Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association is planning a golf outing Sunday, Feb. 17, at Brierwood Golf Club in Shallotte. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The tournament is open to single, legally separated, widowed or divorced individuals. Golfers may play once with the association without joining.

Senior tournaments

The Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department sponsors senior golf tournaments throughout the year.

Tournaments are open to Brunswick County residents 55 and older. Golfers compete for low gross score in their age group.

Upcoming tournaments: Feb. 26, Oak Island, $30; April 29, Brierwood, TBA; May 21, The Members Club at St. James, $45; June 25, Brick Landing, $40; July 23, The Lakes, $30; Aug. 20, Lockwood Folly, $42; Sept. 9, Farmstead, $40; Oct. 22, The Lakes, $30; Nov. 19, The Players Club at St. James; $45; Dec. 10, Rivers Edge, $45.

The April 29 tournament is open to Brunswick County Senior Games participants only.

Sponsors needed

Sponsors are needed for an upcoming golf tournament that will benefit Good Shepherd Center in Wilmington.

The fifth annual golf tournament is scheduled Monday, March 31, at the Nicklaus course at Landfall. Individual and corporate sponsorship opportunities are available.

Good Shepherd Center was established in 1983 as a soup kitchen and has become the largest provider of homeless services in the region.

Programs include a food salvage and distribution program, a night shelter with 118 beds, transitional living centers for the homeless and a day shelter offering access to showers, clothing, jobs and on-site health services.

Cougar Classic

The 8th Annual Cougar Classic Golf Tournament is scheduled Saturday, May 31, at The Players Club at St. James Plantation.

The tournament is a fundraiser for the South Brunswick High School football and golf programs.

The format is four-person captain’s choice. The entry fee is $60 per player and mulligans are available for $5. There also will be 50-50 raffle with tickets selling for $5 each.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. and there will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

There will be breakfast before the tournament, lunch at the turn and pizza following golf.

There will be separate flights for men and women and longest drive and closest to the pin contests for men and women.

There is a limit of 32 teams and the event has sold out the last two years.

Sponsorships are available for $100, $300, $500 and $1,000.
