VFW golf tournament set for Oct. 13
The fifth annual Holden Beach VFW Post 8866 golf tournament will start at 9 a.m. Oct. 13 at Lockwood Folly Golf Club. This event is the major fundraising event of the year, enabling the post to contribute to various veteran and community causes such as supplying phone cards for deployed troops, supplies for Supply Elementary, Cedar Grove Middle School and West Brunswick High School’s JROTC. The Post also supports Relay for Life, Brunswick County Sheriff’s office, the VA hospital provides packages for troops being deployed overseas just to name a few.
The tournament costs $50 per player and includes a pizza social on Oct. 12 and lunch after the tournament. There will be a $10,000 hole-in-one contest, closest to the pin and straightest drive. Stephanie Garrison tourney Oct. 13
The third annual Stephanie Garrison charity golf outing to benefit Paws Place Dog Rescue begins at 9 a.m. Oct. 13 at Topsail Greens Golf Club. The fee is $60 per golfer. Brunswick Novant Medical Center golf tourney
The Brunswick Novant Medical Center Foundation will host its first golf tournament Oct. 12 at Lockwood Folly Country Club. All proceeds from the golf tournament will support the BNMC Foundation’s Women and Children’s Wellness Outreach Initiative.
The 18-hole golf classic will begin with registration and breakfast from 7-8:30 a.m. Following breakfast, an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start is planned for the captain’s choice tournament. The tournament will also include men and women’s categories for closest to the pin, closest to the center line, longest drive, hole-in-one contests and a putting competition. Mulligans will be available to golfers.
A lunch reception will follow the tournament, including prizes and a raffle. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third-place teams. Registration for individual players is $125 and $500 for teams. Sponsorships for the golf tournament are available.

Shrine Club golf tourney Oct. 27
The South Brunswick Islands Shrine Club golf tourney starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 27 at Brierwood. Entry fee is $60 per golfer and covers refreshments and lunch. Entry deadline is Oct. 22. Calabash VFW tourney Nov. 12
Calabash VFW Post 7288 will host its annual golf tournament Nov. 19 at Sea Trail Golf Links Byrd Course. The event is open to men and women with flight awards, golf course awards and door prizes. There’s a 7:30 a.m. show time and an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. After the golfing, the participants return to the Calabash VFW for lunch and refreshments. The cost is $140 per two-person team and proceeds from the event will benefit the Wounded Warriors, a program committed to helping U.S. troops adjust to life after suffering the wounds of war. Entry forms are available at the Post at 900 Carter Drive and they must be submitted with payment by the Nov. 12 entry deadline. For more information, call the Calabash VFW at 579-3577.
