Hicks wins gold, silver in state Tae Kwon Do meet

Ronnie Hicks, head instructor of Carolina Olympic Tae Kwon Do in Boiling Spring Lakes, won a gold medal and a silver medal in the recent state championships.

Hicks won gold in poomse and silver in sparring in the North Carolina Tae Kwon Do Championships in Fayetteville. USA Tae Kwon Do sanctioned the meet.

Winning gold in poomse qualified Hicks to participate in the Junior Olympics and senior nationals. It also was an important step for him in trying to compete at the Olympic Trials. Tae Kwon Do became an Olympic event in 2000.
