The Beachcombers played a two-nets tournament Friday at Cypress Bay. The winners with a score of 124 (-20) were Dan O’Connell, Dennis Keane, Sid Silver and Gary Gutheil. Second with a 125 (-19) were Paul Michal, Ed Nocella, Bob Byrne, Bill Cameron and Hal Riebesehl. Gross: Gary Gutheil, 89. Net: Hal Riebesehl, 69. Hal Riebesehl is golfer of the week.
On May 29, the Brick Landing Nine Is Fine golf group played its monthly game day. The player with the best poker score was pronounced the winner. Dottie Leelike won with the highest four of a kind.
The Ladies Golf Association played a David and Goliath league game on May 31 (net score on all par 5s and all par 3s). Elsa Bonstein finished first in the first flight with a 24 but disqualified herself for having too many clubs. Dale Calhoon was declared the winner (25) and Irene Dowdy was runner-up at (27). In the second flight, Mary Biesack was first with a 24, Sharon Brown second with a 25 and Mary Tacea third with a 27. In the third flight Kathy Mularczyk came in first with a 26 and Peg Campana was second with a 36. Sharon Brown chipped in at 10.
Brierwood member-member tourney
The Brierwood Golf Club played its annual best ball member-member tournament May 25-26. Flight A gross: Don Tew and Hollen Groff, 144; Gary Hughes and Ed Oliver, 153. Flight A net: Bob Doyle and Randy Milazzo, 122; Howard Boyd and Bill Tonking, 125. Ringer-ringer winners at net 57 were Bob Doyle and Randy Milazzo.
Flight B gross: George Edwards and Harvey Hundley, 163; Reggie FitzGerald and Tom Arney, 169. Flight B net: Morris Hall and Jim Pope, 125; Tom Scrivani and Bob Janovic, 126. Ringer-ringer winners were Tom Kronyak and Ron Arvidson at net 53.
In the Brierwood Men’s Golf Association two best ball match on May 28, the first- place team with a score of -33 went to Dave Harper, Paul Salerno and Ron Arvidson. Finishing second at -24 were Bob Nobes, Bernie Gruzlewski and Les Craft. Third were Dan Perry, Mike Prokop and Chuck Hornfeck at -16.
On May 31 (one gross and one net) the team of George Edwards, Harvey Hundley and Ron Arvidson won at -3. Tying at second at -1 were the team of Dan Perry, Paul Salerno and Larry Boyer and the team of Dave Harper, Bernie Gruzlewski and Tom Kronyak.
In the gross/net tourney, first-flight winners were Sue Janovic (88 gross) and Mary Jane Scrivani (62 net). Fewest putts: Mickey Salerno, 27. In the second flight, the winners were Irene Bryant (101 gross) and Ruth Linder (68 net). Fewest putts: Linder, 31. Chip-ins: Mickey Salerno at 12 and 18 and Marianne Nobes at 9 and 18. Sue Janovic scored a birdie at 8.
In the Flags tourney, in the first flight Sue Janovic had a net 18 and Dee Bogard and Mary Jane Scrivani had net 20. In the second flight, Cindy Northrup had a net 13 and Pat Kronyak had a net 15. In the third flight, Sharon Beavers had a net 14 and Ruth Linder and Carol Fitz-Gerald had a net 15. Nancy Kumlin chipped in at 14.
On May 28 at Heather Glen Jerry Rubin, Jody Serensits, Steve Maiorca and Sid Pennington were first at 146. Format for the day was cha-cha-cha. Ron Doeblin, John Ducey, Von Hincher and Jen Dearborn were second on a match of cards over Pete Scott, Bob Levan, Joe Gallo and a draw.
On Friday at Heather Glen, Steve Maiorca, Sid Pennington, Von Hincher and Karl Pettersen were first at 142. Teams scored a gross and net per hole. In second was the team of Jim Kennedy, Pete Scott, Jen Dearborn and a draw.
