Trailing by one run going into the bottom of the ninth inning, Brunswick Community College came from behind to edge Southeastern Community College 7-6 last Wednesday night.
Jordan Davis drove in the winning run.
The first two Dolphin batters in the bottom of the ninth, David Smeltzer and Jeremy King, each got hit by a pitch. Then T.J. Overman smacked a base hit up the middle, driving in Smeltzer to tie the game at 6-6, and Overman went to second on the throw to home. Southeastern intentionally walked Frankie Everitte to load the bases with no outs.
“We pinch-hit Jordan Davis, and he got a hit to left center,” BCC coach Robbie Allen said. “It would have scored two runs easily, but (as the winning run scored), we just brought the other runners to the next base and stopped them.
“We’ve come from behind in two games this season and won. This one was big because we had hit a skid where we hadn’t won in awhile. The game was back and forth and intense. It just worked out in our favor, thank goodness.
“Jeremy King went seven innings and pitched very well. John Child came in in the eighth, pitched the last two innings and got the win.”

The Dolphins blasted 13 hits in a 14-2 rout of Stanly Community College Saturday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader.
“We just hit ball after ball, and they found a hole,” BCC coach Robbie Allen said. “In that inning, everything just fell together, almost like it was placed.”
Winning pitcher Frankie Everitte had five strikeouts in three innings of work.

Frankie Everitte went 3-for-4 at the plate for the winners.
“He’s got a six-game hitting streak,” “He’s hitting the ball very well. It’s been a pleasant surprise for Frankie (who’s also a pitcher) to be as consistent hitting as he has been.”
