K-9 Enforcement Team Round-up

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office recently launched its newest law enforcement initiative, the K-9 enforcement team.

The team, comprised of five K-9 officers and their dogs, is similar to the sheriff’s office community policing program, which targets areas with high crime and drug activity, but the K-9 enforcement team is its own patrol division. The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

From July 28-Aug. 3, officers with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Enforcement Team answered 47 calls, issued 21 uniformed citations, made five drug arrests and 12 other arrests.

Areas worked include Mount Misery Road, Hale Swamp Road, North Mulberry Road, Turkey Trap Road, Town Creek, Cedar Hill Road, Longwood Road, Little Macedonia Road, Marlowtown Road, Gray Bridge Road, Pinecrest, Maco Road, Navassa, Long Beach Road, N.C. 211 and N.C. 133.

After a traffic stop, K-9 officers assisted in serving seven warrants on Kendrick Lavar Bellamy. He was taken into custody.

Bellamy, 30, of 2485 Old Ocean Highway, Bolivia, failed to appear in court July 21 for driving while license revoked, fictitious registration, no insurance, failure to wear a seat belt and no registration. Bellamy failed to appear July 7 for driving while license revoked, no insurance and fictitious registration.

On July 3, Bellamy failed to appear in court for driving while impaired, no registration, fictitious registration and tire restriction equipment violation. Bellamy was taken into custody on a $25,000 bond and has a Sept. 16 court date.

K-9 officers issued the following citations:

•Arturo Ortega Diaz, 31, of 424 Racine Drive, Wilmington; cited for no driver’s license.

•Ronald R. Peoples Jr., 19, of 9199 Kendall Chapel Road, Winnabow; cited for possession of ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Jeffrey Clyde Baker, 49, of 726 West Kitty Hawk Road, Kitty Hawk; cited for fictitious registration plate.

•Shannon Lee Fowler, 19, of 2220 Apollo St., Supply; cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Christopher Matthew Edwards, 19, of 940 Whiteville Road NW; cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Daniel Ray Patterson, 30, of 1749 Colon Mintz Road NE, Leland; charged with carrying a concealed weapon and careless and reckless driving.

•Antonio Tapia Trujillo, 31, of 2914 Acres Circle NE, Leland; cited for no driver’s license.

•Delores May Freeman, 36, of 3552 Blue Banks Loop Road, Leland; cited for expired inspection.

•Jorge Mejia Herrera, 36, of 1008 Gray Bridge Road, Shallotte; cited for no inspection sticker.

•Elwood Bell, 40, of 1357 Hale Swamp Road, Shallotte; cited for driving while license revoked.

•Aristeo Tepox Lopez, 36, of 222 Hunt Road, Whiteville; cited for driving while license revoked.

•Macio Moises Michua, 23, of 14279 Swamp Fox Highway East, Tabor City; cited for driving while license revoked.

•Jaquin Bethea, 38, of 800 McMilly Road, Shallotte; cited for a child safety seat violation.

•Precilla Babson Chamberlin, 46, of 641 Sandy Bluff Road SW, Supply; cited for possession of ounce or less of marijuana and using drug paraphernalia.

Chamberlin was also cited for consuming a malt beverage while driving.

•Maria Torres Domiguez, 24, of 1120 Morehead Road, Boiling Spring Lakes; cited for no driver’s license.

•Nelson Martel, of 305 Stuart Ave., Apt. A, Southport; cited for no driver’s license.

•Juan Carlos Cota Malaga, 23, of 1950 Old Ocean Highway, Bolivia; cited for no driver’s license.

•Albert Harvey-Riley Cliff Jr., 34, of 1350 Lords Branch Road SE, Winnabow; cited for expired inspection.

•Juan Luna, 34, of Nuns Trail NE, Leland; cited for no driver’s license.

•Jessica N. Underwood, 24, of 6388 Live Oak Ave., Ocean Isle Beach; cited for expired registration.

•Julian C. Arredia, 46, of 202 Longs Trail, Nakina; cited for no driver’s license.

•James Michael Saunders, 37, of 2150 Freedoms Star Road, Longwood; charged with intoxicated and disruptive.
