A Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Officer and his dog successfully tracked a lost weapon Monday afternoon.

But unlike most weapons recovery tracks, K-9 officer Brian Carlisle and his K-9 Dicky tracked the lost gun for another officer.

According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Brian Sanders, Carlisle responded when a state trooper called for assistance to recover his weapon around 4 p.m. Monday on N.C. 130 near Ash. Sanders said Sgt. Tim Daniels said he “set his weapon on the trunk of his car, forgot about it and drove a short distance.”

When he realized he left his weapon on the trunk, Daniels called for assistance, Sanders said.

No injuries were reported, and it took about 30 minutes to recover the firearm.

State highway patrol Sgt. T.W. Pope said they had no reports of any lost weapons.
