Jeremy King’s three-run home run in the fifth inning drove in the winning runs in BCC’s 10-8 victory Saturday against Harford Community College in the first game of a weekend series.
Harford, which is in Bel Air, Md., entered the game 3-1. BCC improved to 9-4.
BCC trailed 8-7 in the bottom fifth but Drew Alford led off with walk and, with one out, T.J. Overman walked. King, who had struck out of his previous three at-bats, then homered.
BCC relief pitcher Ryan Carr, struck out three of the six batters he faced in the final two innings of the seven-inning game.
BCC starting pitcher Taylor Bullard fell behind 2-0 to the Fighting Owls in the first after giving up three walks and a single.
BCC tied the score in the bottom of the second, the first run coming after Jordan Davis walked, Noah Hawkins walked and Kurt Petty, the No. 9 hitter, singled.
With two outs, Chris Eason was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Overman then walked, forcing in the tying run.
Harford took a 5-2 lead in the third, scoring two runs after a two-out error.
The Dolphins regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs for a 7-5 lead. David Smeltzer led off and was safe on an error. With one out, Davis walked. A run scored on a passed ball and Hawkins doubled home a run, cutting the lead to 5-4.
After Petty walked, Alford singled home the tying run. Eason was safe on an error, and a run scored on the play. Facing a new pitcher, Overman doubled home a run.
Bullard allowed two runs on two walks and a single in the top of the fourth. With the score tied 7-7 and runners on third and first, reliever Frankie Everitte entered the game. Harford scored on a groundout but Everitte ended the inning by getting another groundout. He gave up one hit and two walks in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out two.
In the second game Saturday, BCC won 4-3 in 12 innings.
On Sunday, BCC split two seven-inning games, winning 8-7 and but losing 7-3.
