Lady Cougar relays in good shape for regional

 BOLIVIA — Three South Brunswick High School girls’ relay teams reached automatic times for the state-qualifying regional in a meet Dec. 19 at the Dinah E. Gore Aquatics Center.


Junior Brinkley Farmer, senior Michelle Richards, junior Payton Drummonds and senior Morgan Gilbert were second in the 200 freestyle medley.

Gilbert, senior Katelyn Auger, junior Lauren Johnson and Drummonds were second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.05.

Richards, Johnson, junior Hannah Jones and Auger were second in the 400 freestyle in 4:31.78.

In other events,  Auger won the 200 freestyle in 2:26.86 and Richards was second in 2:33.34. Gilbert was second in 50 freestyle in 28.44. Richards was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:17.21. Gilbert was first in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.50 and Auger was second in 1:05.33. Farmer was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:14.53.

In the boys’ events, Junior Ryan Goodson won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.23, an automatic time. Chris Anselmo was first in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.76. (Automatic is 1:03.99.)

South’s class 3A teams competed in a meet with Ashley and Laney, both 4A teams. South won the girls’ meet by 1 point, 96-95. Laney was last (78).

In the boys’ meet, Laney was first (116), Ashley second (89) and South last (57).

South’s next home meet is 1 p.m. Jan. 11. The regional is Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. The state meet is the following weekend.
