The Ocean Ridge Ladies Golf Association played its annual Carolina Cup tournament, which is a three-day Ryder Cup format tournament. Because of rain, the tournament was a two-day event, Aug. 6 on Panther’s Run and Aug. 13 on Panther’s Run.
As in traditional Ryder Cup matches, there are three formats: alternate shot, better ball, and individual match play. In each format, the winners of the match gained one point for her team. A half point was awarded for a tie. There were 10 points up for grabs on the first day in the alternate shot format, and 20 points for the individual match play on the last day. As a result, the two teams of ORLGA members competed for a total of 30 points.
Joan Hill’s team was named The Hooter Tooters, and the team members were Alice Christiansen, Kathy Beadnell, Sharon Benson, Lori Bonnington, Linda Buck, Sally Duffy, Kathy Giancarlo, Pam Hartman, Sue Kane, Grace Loyack, Shirley Lukasik, Deb MacFarlane, Karen McCloskey, Carole Milnichuk, Colleen Plebanek, Pat Ronay, Susan Scott, Debbie Sisk, Mickie Underhill, Liz Waldron and Becky Williams,
Diane Wright’s team was named Lady Di and her Court, and team members were Ginny Alger, MaryLou Atkinson, Grace Bradicich, Pat Brooks, Karen Browning, Sue Carano, Maureen Craik, Lorraine Crosby, Patti Dugan, Judy Keegan, Nancy MacDonald, Jeanne Maxon, Patsy Mays, Doris McLaughlin, Phyllis O’Connor, Val Ratchford, Peggy Rowland, Marti Serensits, Carole Schuster, Cathy Story, and Ann Turner were members of this team.
In the alternate shot format, Di and her Court won 6.5-3.5. In the final day’s singles matches, Di and Her Court won 12-8. Overall, Di and Her Court ruled, won the Carolina Cup 18.5-11.5 points.
