Lady Dolphins open basketball season Tuesday, Oct. 29

 Coach Joe Gaughan begins his second year as coach of the Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team with his first full recruiting class.

Briahna Dickerson is a 5-foot-8 guard from St. James High School who was team captain her senior year and averaged nearly 10 points per game. 

Chantay Smith is a 5-foot-5 guard from East Carteret High School in Beaufort. She averaged 17 points per game her senior year and had a career single-game high of 32 points. 

Jasmine Corbett is a 5-foot-10 forward/center rom Ashley High School in Wilmington. She is a strong rebounder and scorer and helped her team win 20 games her senior year. 

Anasia Evans, a 5-foot-1 point guard from Fairmont High School, was an All-Three Rivers Conference member and averaged nearly 18 points and four steals per game. 

Courtney Pearsall, a 5-foot-7 forward/guard from Clinton High School, was District 4 Player of the Year and scored more than 1,000 points in her high school career.  She also averaged 15 points per game her senior year.

Hayden Jessup, a 5-foot-4 guard from Topsail High School, will be the lock-down defender for the Dolphins.

The four returning players are 5-foot-11 forward Crystal Hicks, guards Kima Sidberry and Tyesha McLean and 5-foot-9 center/forward Kenedra Smith.

Hicks averaged 6.8 points per game for a team that averaged 53.3 points a game. She also averaged 5.4 rebounds per game for a team that averaged 30.4. McLean averaged 5.9 points per game.

The Lady Dolphins opened their season Tuesday, Oct. 29. Its next home game is 2 p.m. Nov. 17 against Spartanburg Methodist.

The Lady Dolphins also will play in the annual BCC Holiday Tournament, with games Dec. 19, Dec. 20 and Dec. 21. See schedule at gobccsports.com.
